If your job is to be on phone calls or Zoom meetings or on any other UC system (Unified Communications) all day, then you probably already know about the necessity of a Bluetooth headset. Freeing up both hands to type or shift through papers, a headset makes your job possible. With BT connectivity you’re untethered and free to roam about wherever it is you’re working (likely at home during the pandemic). While the highly-acclaimed bluetooth headsets buyer’s guide doesn’t mention the Jabra Evolve2 65, mainly because of its business-centric specialization, the Evolve2 65 is well worth looking at if you’re a professional user.

Why We Like It – Jabra Evolve2 65

The Jabra Evolve2 65 is a serious piece of business equipment intended for professionals engaged in long periods of continuous use. Comfortable to wear with many features to maximize productivity.

Pros
  • Great isolating headset
  • Excellent sound quality
  • Triple microphone
Cons
  • Very expensive
  • Non adjustable headband

Performance

The Jabra Evolve2 65 is perfect for those with jobs requiring them to be talking on a phone or online for hours at a time. The Evolve2 65 is a wireless Bluetooth headset, with dual speakers over each ear completely blocking out background noise providing sound isolation in noisy settings. Although not designed for listening to music, the Evolve2 delivers rich fidelity equivalent to fine stereo headphones. Listen to music, and when a call is received the music pauses so you can answer, and then the music resumes playing when you hang up. A single boom triple microphone provides call clarity. “Busy Lights” on each earpiece are visible from any angle alerting nearby colleagues that you’re on a call. A USB-A (or alternatively a USB-C ) dongle is included in the event the computing platform you use doesn’t have built-in Bluetooth. Jabra claims the battery life of the Evolve2 65 is the best in the industry, providing up to 37 hours of battery life on a single charge, with a mere 15 minutes of charging time yielding up to 8 hours worth of power. Your experience will likely vary. Recharge the battery by placing the Evolve2 in the included charging stand. Alternatively, you may want to check out our Jabra Evolve 75 review for a bluetooth headset with a longer battery life. There are downloadable Jabra apps for all popular phones or computing platforms that add useful capabilities. Jabra asserts the Evolve2 65 is certified for many UC systems (Unified Communications systems include Cisco, Mitel, Avaya, Microsoft Teams, and others).

Design

The design of the Jabra Evolve2 65 is as you’d expect for a professional wireless headset. Large 40mm ear pieces are over-ear (not the in-ear kind like Apple Airpods, the No. 1 pick in the Buyer’s Guide), and padded with enhanced memory foam as ‘passive’ noise cancellation that Jabra says eliminates more of the noise around you (as opposed to ‘active’ noise cancellation using circuitry such as in the ICOMTOFIT Bluetooth Headset). The headband of the Evolve2 is also cushioned with memory foam, but it’s not adjustable. Wearing the Evolve2 is comfortable, although some say it’s a little tight. Go through the Jabra Stealth bluetooth headset review if you are looking for a light bluetooth headset that you won’t even notic it’s there. The boom mic hung from the right ear is actually a triple microphone array (appears to work best in conjunction with the corresponding downloadable Jabra app). The microphone boom can be flipped up away from your mouth, which mutes it so that whatever you say when it’s up is private. Bluetooth connectivity is via support of BT V5.0 protocol which has enhanced sound quality and power management. The claimed 37 hours of battery life doesn’t distinguish if this is talk time or listening time or standby time, so it’s likely that the real-world battery life that’s ultimately experienced will be determined by your specific use pattern. There’s a cool looking L-shaped desk stand that the Evolve2 65 sits in and that charges the battery. It’s a little bit challenging to set the Evolve2 in its stand correctly until you get the hang of it. Additional battery management and other added capabilities are found in the downloadable Jabra apps available for your platform of choice.

Value

The price of the Jabra Evolve2 65 is stratospheric, making it pretty clear that this is equipment intended for callers like dispatchers or CSRs, inside sales reps, or similar users. If your career success is all about phone conversations and you want to maximize your effectiveness, then the Jabra Evolve2 65 is probably worth every dime. If your headset needs are less demanding, then a solution such as the Plantronics Voyager Legend Wireless Bluetooth Headset is a third of the price.

Jabra Evolve2 65 Wrap Up

The Jabra Evolve2 65 is a professional grade Bluetooth headset. An outstanding choice for professional use cases, and as good a stereo headphone for music listening as many high end audio headphones.
