Priced just below $160, the Hessaire MC18M is one of the most affordable evaporative coolers on the market right now, especially since the DeLonghi portable evaporative cooler is twice that amount. Plus, with the power to effectively cool a floor area of up to 500 square feet, you’d be getting a lot of value for your money by opting for it. The cooler is also very compact, so you should be able to have it stored in a nice corner in your house or office without obstructing anything. Is it the best evaporative air conditioner around? Well, that would be a very bold claim to make, but if you’re looking for a swamp cooler that will generate enough cool air for you to be comfortable in your living room, then it should be perfect for the job.

Why We Like It – Hessaire MC18M

The Hessaire MC18M evaporative air conditioner is a compact alternative that’s suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and one that’s got a large enough water capacity to offer close to 4 hours of cooling before it requires a refill.

Pros
  • Compact yet powerful
  • 4.8 Gallon water tank lasts 4 hours until the next refill
  • Standard hose can be attached to unit for continuous water supply
Cons
  • Limited fan & cooling functions

Performance

The Hessaire MC18M portable evaporative cooler uses a high-density XeL50 cooling media, and this lends up to 80% more evaporation surface compared to a regular density evaporative material. It also has an impressive airflow output capacity of up to 1300 Cubic Feet Per minute, and for a cooler of its size, this is quite impressive. If this does not sound like nearly enough power, then you might want to consider the Hessaire MC37M, which has an airflow output of 3100 cubic feet per minute, and has a cooling coverage of up to 950 square feet. Although, for use in a smaller room, you’ll be fine with the Haier portable A/C.

Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is something that we all have to consider when purchasing cooling equipment for your house or office. Evaporative coolers are some of the most energy-efficient solutions you can turn to, as they require just a bit of electricity to work the fan. The Hessaire MC18M has only two fan modes to choose from, which are either high or low. The Luma Comfort EC111B on the other hand offers three, offering just a little more flexibility in terms of how fast you want your fan to run.

Filtration

In most evaporative coolers, it is the evaporative material (cooling media) that filters out any unwanted particles from the air that is sucked in, and this helps make sure that the air getting circulated remains uncontaminated. This also applies with the Hessaire MC18M, so you shouldn’t expect it to be circulating dusty air, or air that’s got pollen grains or particles.

Durability

Similar to the Honeywell CO30XE Portable indoor-outdoor evaporative cooler, the MC18M is backed by a 1-year warranty on both parts and labor. If you happen to come across an issue with your unit, feel free to reach out to their customer care desk, and they’ll be more than happy to send a technician over to get things sorted out.

Value

With a water tank that’s got a capacity of about 4.8 gallons, the MC18M evaporative cooler will be able to run for about 4 hours until the next time you’ll need to refill it. If you wouldn’t prefer doing this, then you can also opt to attach a standard hose onto the back of the unit for continuous water supply. We do wish that it came with a designated ice chamber, but even without one, everything would still be fine if you added ice directly into the tank.

Hessaire MC18M Wrap Up

There’s not much else about the Hessaire MC18M that we haven’t gone over, so if you’re still not quite impressed by what it’s got to offer, then perhaps that might change if you head over to its Amazon page and find out what previous buyers had to say about it.
