Goodman Air Conditioners are among the best central air conditioner brands because of their overall excellent SEER ratings and their compatibility with True HEPA Filters. The Copeland compressors are a very nice touch as well. Of course, it does retain some negatives too. Goodman ACs do tend to be noisier than most of their competitors. Read on to get all you need to know about this unit and how it compares to other impressive air conditioners.

Why We Like It – Goodman Central Air Conditioner

The Goodman Central Air Conditioner, specifically the GSX14, is an excellent mid-range air conditioner available to those on a budget, who are looking for their first air conditioner, or who are looking to spend less money upfront. And with the 15 SEER rating, it falls between the recommended 14-16 range for homeowners.

Pros
  • Good SEER Rating for Houses
  • Compatible With True HEPA Filters
  • Compressors Made by Copeland
Cons
  • Noisy
  • Not as Energy Efficient Because of the Single-Stage Compressor
  • No Factory-Designated Installers

Performance

The Goodman Air Conditioning Units offer a 15 SEER rating (this measurement is different than the top 15,000 BTU A/Cs) which is between the 14-16 rating recommended for houses, just like the Amana Air Conditioner. The single-stage compressor means the unit is less energy efficient though because the unit will always run at max power. The 72 dB is high for central air conditioners so be prepared for some noise too. In terms of energy efficiency, a better model is this Goodman Air Conditioner that features Copeland’s two-stage compressor.

Energy Efficiency

This Goodman AC Unit, as we’ve already seen, will always run at maximum power because of the single-stage compressor. That is one of the similarities it has with its predecessor, the Goodman GSX 13. So if you’re looking to save on energy costs in the long run this unit is probably not the best bet. Try the Carrier Central Air Conditioner if saving in the long term is your goal.

Filtration

Unlike a lot of other air conditioning units, the GSX 14, like its cousin the Goodman Air Conditioner, is actually compatible with True HEPA Filters and thus provides a greater amount of comfort because of the cleaner air. They also feature an electronic air cleaner and a UV light for particle destroying as well as particle trapping.

Durability

There’s plenty to love about the construction of the Goodman Air Conditioners. The indoor coil is made of aluminum and thus reduces the chance of corrosion and leaks because there are no dissimilar metals. Goodman compressors are also made by Copeland. Copeland is, by far, the leading manufacturer when it comes to compressors in a heat pump or AC unit. Although, if you experience any issues, such as the A/C making a loud noise when it’s shut off, you’ll need to call in a professional for repairs.

Value

Goodman offers their traditionally-excellent warranties which include a 10-year parts limited warranty provided it is registered online within 60 days of installation, which shouldn’t be too hard. Speaking of installation, it’s unfortunate that Goodman doesn’t have factory-designated installers because installation is probably the one area you don’t want to skimp on when it comes to Central AC.

Goodman Central Air Conditioner Wrap Up

The drawbacks of the Goodman Central Air Conditioner is the lack of Factory-Designated Installers and that it’s less energy-efficient than most other models because of the single-stage compressor. If there’s one thing you shouldn’t skimp on with ACs it’s getting them installed properly. A properly installed unit runs more efficiently, for longer, and with better results.
