Epson announced their Infineon XPOSYS assisted GPS chip, the smallest of its kind, measuring at a tiny 2.8 x 2.9 millimeters. Not only that, it uses 50% less energy compared to today’s tech and is more sensitive to signals, allowing even indoor reception. Not too shabby for a chip the size of a matchstick head.
The XPOSYS is scheduled to be mass produced in late 2009 so expect these in devices sometime in 2010.
