Are you shopping for the best mouse?
I reviewed the Logitech Performance Mouse MX not too long ago, and it’s a fantastic productivity mouse for the stationary workspace. Today we’ll look at its little mobile brother, the Anywhere Mouse MX.
An almost miniature version of the Performance MX, the Anywhere MX is a travel mouse that is as good, if not better, than the Performance MX. The Anywhere comes with less buttons, a smaller frame, and even more features making it ideal for use on your latest desktop computer. With a fricitonless scroll wheel, an ambidextrous design, back and forward buttons on both sides, storage for the 2.4GHz Unifying USB dongle, and a 4-month charge from a single AA battery, this $60 mouse seems to beat its stationary predecessor hands down. It doesn’t, but that’s okay. Because this isn’t a fight between the two; they are complimentary devices.
The Performance Mouse MX is meant to stay at home, or at the office, or wherever it is that you use it. The Anywhere MX, as the name implies is for travel. Throw it in a bag and when you’re on the move, instead of relying on a built-in trackpad or even a touchscreen, use not only a good ‘ol mouse, but a great one. The Anywhere MX is small but packs a punch. It has the precision and use-anywhere Darkfield technology that the Performance MX boasts in an itty-bitty frame. The leather carrying case is both secure and professionally sleek. And if the battery ever dies, no need to charge it.
I’ve tested the Anywhere MX for the past two months, both in house and travelling, and it is a darling and a lifesaver. I wouldn’t turn to any other mouse for travel. Previously I used the Microsoft Sculpt Touch mouse for travel, though the fat body was a little strange to use regularly because it forces the wrist up in the air while the hand is angled downward. The Anywhere MX has a more traditional mouse shape, only smaller. For long use it requires a claw-grip, but for travel that’s not a problem.

By far the most impressive thing about the Anywhere MX is that it is, for all intents and purposes, a mini Performance MX, meaning it’s an excellent mouse with pitch-perfect tracking, great design, great comfort, as well as sturdy, stable, and the kind of product you don’t want to leave home without. In fact, the few times I forgot it left me disheartened, even though I didn’t really need it. Like the Professional Presenter R800, I’ve come to feel a bit naked without the Anywhere MX. It’s a mainstay of my work bag, even I stick to the Performance MX in the office.
Case in point, while testing a new touchscreen laptop with a great trackpad, I still reverted to the Anywhere MX. The 11″ laptop has a phenomenal touchscreen that is very accurate, and the trackpad — while not on par with Apple’s — is really good. But mobile mousing is still the best way to go, at least until Microsoft seriously improves how the touchscreen operates. Furthermore, whenever I play IT/tech support at the office, I just pull out the Anywhere MX, plug in the USB dongle, and with no additional work I’m connected without dirtying up (or, as is more often the case, getting more dirty myself) someone else’s computer/mouse.

For the traveler, the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX is the best travel mouse you can get. It’s a Performance Mouse MX miniaturized, and it’s $40 less expensive to boot. You couldn’t ask for more.
Bottom Line: Travelers can’t find a better travel mouse. Even if you don’t travel, it’s a great mouse for regular use, though for long hours it’ll get cramped due to the small size.
