The Trayvax Ascent isn’t exactly one of the best cool wallets, but it makes a fine effort with its leather exterior. It shares more in common with the Best Tactical Wallet, due to its durable steel plating and tactical design. It holds a generous number of credit cards, in addition to a cutout for cash.

Why We Like It – Trayvax Ascent

The Trayvax Ascent makes good use of its genuine leather exterior, wrapped around a durable steel plate. More importantly, it can store 7 credit cards at one, with a small cutout for petty cash. In case you are minimalist, and you are looking for something different, the bifold wallet with two stainless steel plates, a nylon strap and a clip is what you should be looking for. Read more about it in our Trayvax axis review.

Pros
  • Durable construction
  • Can handle 7 cards at once
  • Handy cut-away for storing cash
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Only comes in tobacco brown coloring

Aesthetics

Aesthetically speaking, the Trayvax Ascent isn’t the worst, nor is it the best. The genuine top grain leather was shaped, cut, and stitched far better than the Trayvax Element was, so it gets a few bonus points there. However, it only comes in tobacco brown coloring, which isn’t for everyone. For a simpler wallet that is soft, durable, and minimalistic, read the Travelambo wallet review.

Durability

As for toughness, it does well, though not as well as the Trayvax Contour. This is because the leather can wear out over time if you don’t take special care of it; otherwise it cracks and peels. Underneath, however, is a strong, durable piece of stainless steel.

Performance

In practice, the Trayvax Ascent does well in its own right. It has 7 card slots altogether, but if you flip it, you’ll also find additional storage, a small cutout that serves as your cash slot. Gaining access to either or is quick and painless, thanks to a pull tab, which can also be used to hang Trayvax wallets from.

Size & Versatility

If you were worried about fitting this into your pockets, don’t be! The Trayvax Ascent only measures to 3.8 x 2.75 x 0.3 inches, a tiny thing that easily serves as a front pocket wallet. It’s so small you’ll hardly notice it’s there.

Value

Unfortunately, getting your hands on a Trayvax Ascent is easier said than done. This is because its price is rather steep. Maybe if it held more cards or money, other than 7 and 5, respectively, it would worth the price. If you can’t stomach the coloring (some can’t), then you can save yourself a lot by going with the Magpul Daka Everyday Wallet. It’s a cheaper, equally functioning minimalist wallet.

Trayvax Ascent Wrap Up

The Trayvax Ascent is a better attempt at making a stainless steel and leather wallet than previous attempts. While it is slightly cheaper than its brothers, it still has a steep price. Yes, it can hold up to 7 cards and 5 bills inside a separate slot, and it’s steel is durable. But that’s it. Trayvax would have to do more to warrant such a price.
