Whether it’s a TV, radio, home theater or a camera that you’re buying from Sony, there’s no question about the level of quality that you’re getting. The very same applies to the Sony UBP X1100ES; a relatively high end Blu Ray player that’s going to play literally every type of disc that you can put into it. The Ultra HD Blu Ray player is also easy on the eyes, and features a very solid build quality. Most would even be shocked at how slim it is for a UHD Blu Ray player. Nonetheless, the X1100ES is easily capable of handling 4K Blu-rays, HD Blu-rays, DVDs & CDs, while also having a long list of audio formats that it supports. Could it be the best Blu Ray player to integrate into your home theater system? Let’s find out if it also fits in the best Tv accessories list.

Why We Like It – Sony UBP-x1100ES

The Sony UBP-X1100ES is a top tier Blu Ray player that can handle Dolby Vision content, and despite the lack of HDR10 support, it’s still able to deliver the highest picture quality during your CD, SACD, DVD, DVD-Audio, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, and Ultra HD Blu-ray disc playback. And speaking of picture quality, why not check out our TV buying guide for the best smart TVs in the market today.

Pros
  • Wide range of audio & video format support
  • 3 Year Warranty
  • Great build quality
Cons
  • No HDR10 support

Performance

The Sony UBP player comes with everything you could want your HD Blu Ray Player to have. It delivers excellent picture quality even though it doesn’t support HDR10, and is also able to handle Dolby Vision content. The Sony player is also well equipped to process audio formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS X, while also having a wide range of wireless connections that you can stream your media through. The UHD Blu Ray player is able to connect to the Internet through its built in Wi Fi receiver, or an Ethernet network connection just like the Xbox One S. This means you’ll be able to stream your favourite shows from Netflix or watch videos on YouTube with a lot of ease. The player also features Bluetooth connectivity, which allows you to transmit Hi-Res Audio to your Bluetooth enabled headphones if you’re watching something by yourself. Design

Like most Blu Ray Players, the UBP X1100ES is partially made out of plastic and only comes in black, but it does have insulator feet to give it more stability, and a glossed out front middle section that gives it a bit of umph. At first blush, it might be difficult to see where exactly a disc goes in on the UHD Blu Ray player, and this is because the front panel pops out to reveal the disc tray. Like the Samsung UBD-K8500, the Sony Blu Ray Player is also quite slim, and has top and bottom plates made from heavy duty metal. On the other hand, its remote control is also pretty decent, but not as high quality as some of the other controls we’ve seen. To stream the popular streaming services, one of the best gadgets to have is described in the Sony UBP X800M2 review.

Value

Audio support on the Sony UBP player is nothing short of exceptional. The X1100ES features high resolution digital audio processing, which is great because as Sony puts it, you get to hear every breath, every drumbeat and every note. Since the Sony player support Dolby formats, the same level of high sound quality applies when you’re viewing High Dynamic Range content, or when you’re playing a DVD Audio CD. If you already have a Sony TV, then this Blu Rays player will integrate much better with it through its Bravia mode, which reroutes certain functions to the display to handle – a feature you won’t get with the Panasonic DMP-UB900.

Sony UBP-x1100ES Wrap Up

If up until now you cannot play HDR format/HDR content or listen to high resolution audio on your home cinema, then it’s definitely time for an upgrade. The Sony X1100ES Blu Ray disc player is all you need to take your entertainment experience to the next level, and play all those Blu ray discs you might have sitting in your collection.
