In the line of Optoma projectors, it is easy to state that out of all of them, the Optoma HD39HDR brings the cinematic experience of a home theater and combines it into a gaming projector. A high refresh rate not found in other devices helps Optoma deliver the best gaming experience that rivals most professional gaming desktops. With a high lamp life and a full HD picture, it’s no wonder the Optoma HD39HDR is on our list of the best projector for gaming.

Why We Like It – Optoma Projector

Coming in with an impressive 120hz refresh rate, the Optoma Projector marries both gaming and cinema. Useful features compliments fans of both mediums, for an optimal price.

Pros
  • 120hz refresh rate for superior motion on screen
  • Lightweight at 7 lbs
  • 50,000:1 Contrast Ratio
Cons
  • Brightness can be hard to adjust
  • Best picture doesn’t come straight out of the box.

Performance/Resolution Etc.

One thing to note about the Optoma HD39HDR: if you want the best picture from this projector, you’re going to have to work for it. Unfortunately, straight out of the box most customers will experience some off hues regarding the Optoma HD39HDR’s HDR capabilities. This is nothing to detract from the Optoma HD39HDR however, as with a little time and adjustments, you’ll be well on your way to getting the true gaming experience. However should you want a projector that’s ready to go out of the box, the Optoma UHD50X does just that.

Brightness/Lumens

Similar to the Optoma S334E SVGA projector, 4000-lumens is the light source behind the Optoma HD39HDR. This projector can be enjoyed either in day or night time. Alongside a 15,000-hour battery life, you won’t need to worry about replacing batteries all the time. However, when it comes to adjusting the brightness itself, it’s a trickier feat than it should be. Lots of work for minimal results, some might get frustrated by the seeming lack of change in the brightness. Should you need a better experience, the Optoma GT1080HDR can be easily adjusted.

Adjustability

With an ultra-short throw distance of 120 inches from 9½ feet away, there’s not much to adjust, though that’s not a bad thing. After you fine-tune the settings, there’s really not much to adjust, however, Optoma has included a 1.3x lens shift so you can adjust the zoom settings. Other than that the HD39HDR emphasizes a fire and forget mentality.

Durability

At seven pounds the Optoma HD39HDR is lighter than most, except for the Optoma ML750, making it a bit more fragile as well. There is the option to mount the projector to make it more secure, however, if you truly want a solid projector you’ll never worry about, the BenQ HT2150ST is a sound choice.

Value

At a quarter of a thousand dollars, you’re not getting any better than this, a projector that’s 120hz, that’s optimal for both games and cinema? Of course, there are some compromises that must be made, but still, this is a steal at this price and is well worth the price of admission to an unforgettable gaming projector. If your budget is not enough to make this purchase, try the Artograph EZ Tracer Art Projector at $40, which provides a lot of value for the money you spend.

Optoma HD39HDR Wrap Up

When it comes to both the best in a home cinema and gaming experience, the Optoma HD39HDR is the best of both, offering features and options that cater to both ends. A high 120hz refresh rate helps players get every advantage they can get, while a 50,000:1 contrast ratio will have movie watchers see every dark and white detail. The cherry on top being it only weighs seven pounds. While you do have to make some adjustments out of the box, once they are dialed in, you’ll never want to watch anything anywhere else.
