The first thing that stands out about the MOTOPOWER MP00205A Automatic Battery Maintainer is its compact and extra-portable design. It weighs in at just 11.5 ounces and measures in at a mere 4.1 x 2 x 1.5 inches, making this small enough to be tossed in a backpack or side bag. But don’t let the MOTOPOWER’s small size distract you from its excellent ability to charge and maintain your batteries, as needed. If you need to charge smaller batteries, then check out our best portable phone charger list.

While we wouldn’t necessarily recommend the MOTOPOWER charger for recharging batteries that are low, it can still operate in that way. We just recommend you use it as a battery charge maintainer to keep all your batteries continuously topped off while they’re not in use. One of the other best features about this battery charger is the holes on the casing that you can use to mount the unit to the wall. This way, it can stay in place during charging, as long as you’re okay with a more permanent placement. Though to compare your other possibilities check our best battery chargers.

Why We Like It – MOTOPOWER MP00205A Automatic Battery Maintainer

For its price point, the MOTOPOWER MP00205A is the best battery charger maintainer. It’s compact, portable and can be wall mounted for even greater convenience while trickle charging your batteries.

Pros
  • Best maintainer
  • Good built-in safety features
  • Can be wall mounted
Cons
  • Only good for trickle charging
  • Not as durable as other options

Performance

While it could be used to charge a dead battery like the Ampeak Battery Charger Maintainer Automatic it would take well over a hundred hours as the MOTOPOWER MP00205A Fully Automatic Battery Maintainer is purely for trickle charge to keep a battery topped up, in that regard it works fantastically. Though it should be noted it doesn’t always react well to larger vehicle batteries for some reason.

As it’s reverse polarity protected and controls the current maintenance we aren’t quite sure what to chock the batteries who’ve blown, leaked or otherwise broken while hooked up to the MOTOPOWER MP00205A Automatic Battery Maintainer. It could be a matter of the charging current not being stable are the device not recognizing the battery being full and continuing to force power into the cells.

Design

It’s a simple design, a rectangular box with wires coming out of the top and bottom, the front is fairly bare with a sticker that’s mostly an ad for the charger and a little bit of basic directions. The back is plain with four large holes to easily hang the charger, it could be done to keep it out of the way both as it works or for storage unlike the Schumacher SC1281 Automatic Battery Charger which takes up more space and requires a space on your shelf for storage.

Value

Running for less than other battery chargers like the DieHard 71219 Battery Charger Maintainer it is a fully automatic battery charger and made for lead acid batteries. While some verified purchases believe the MOTOPOWER MP00205A Automatic Battery Maintainer overcharges their fully charged battery, so it should be noted that there is some risk.

For safety’s sake we’d say it’s best tested on your less expensive batteries first as we can’t say if the flaw is as rare as it seems with only 7% of reviews having the problem is a fault on the product or a problem with the batteries that broke.
