The black Segway Ninebot S may not be a best hoverboard for heavy adults, but what constitutes heavy is different for each person. But its ability to take hills with ease, its UL 2272 certification, and its magnesium alloy construction do make it the best off road hoverboard and perhaps the best hoverboard we’ve seen so far.

Why We Like It – Hoverboard Ninebot S

The Hoverboard Ninebot S boasts a number of features that put it firmly above the rest of the competition. The 10 miles per hour max speed and the 14 mile battery life add up to a powerful riding experience that will get you where you need to go, fast. And the 10.5 Inch Pneumatic tires ensure you get there safely.

Pros
  • Takes 15 Degree Incline Hills
  • UL Certification
  • Constructed form Magnesium Alloy
Cons
  • 2-4 Hour Charge Time
  • Only 220 Pound Weight Capacity

Performance

The Hoverboard Ninebot S Self Balancing Electric Scooter attains a maximum speed of 10 miles per hour, or 16 km h. This top speed is on the higher side of hoverboards, so if you’re a beginner and want something slower, consider the XtremepowerUS Hoverboard. The Hoverboard Ninebot S can also scale hills of up to 15 degrees, making it a lot more suitable for commuting instead of just playing.

Safety

The Smart Self Balancing Scooter Segway Ninebot contains 10.5 inch pneumatic tires which provides more stability on rough terrain by improving grip. Like most other hoverboards in its class, like the Gyroor Warrior Hoverboard, the Hoverboard Ninebot S also holds a UL 2272 certification ensuring a very high standard of electrical and fire safety.

Battery Life

The battery lasts up to just shy of 14 miles, depending on terrain and your riding style, on a single charge. This isn’t the highest we’ve seen, but it’s still pretty good comparatively. The battery does take around 2-4 hours to charge though. And while this is impressive compared to electric scooters, it’s just a smidge on the long side for hoverboards. Try the Epikgo Sport for a less that two hour charge time.

Durability

I have a personal bias for most items made from aluminum, but I was impressed with the Hoverboard Ninebot S because it’s constructed with aviation standard magnesium-alloy. This unfortunately doesn’t do much for the weight capacity though. At 220 pounds, it’s on the lower end considering we’ve seen ones that can support up to 275 pounds.

Value

The knee control bar on the white Segway Ninebot S Hoverboard allows for pin-point steering and a carrying handle for easy transportation around campus or on a train. The bluetooth-controlled LED lights allow for fun and decorative riding experiences as well as extra safety if you find yourself having to ride in the dark. The IP54 rating means the Hoverboard Ninebot S is protected against solid objects and water-splashing from any angle.

Hoverboard Ninebot S Wrap Up

If there’s one thing the Hoverboard Ninebot S is lacking, it’s the charge time. It’s still fast and completely acceptable, it’s just a smidge longer than what we’re used to seeing with hoverboards in its class. Still, would you prefer a hoverboard that got you somewhere quickly, safely, and with a lot of stamina, or one that just simply charges fast?
