Ever look at your energy bill and wonder, “How do they come up with these prices?” The best smart thermostat to combat such confusion is the Honeywell Home RTH9585WF1004. Thanks to its very smart design, it can adjust your energy usage based on what your supplier attempts to bill you with, so you never pay more than you need to.

Why We Like It – Honeywell Home RTH9585WF1004 Review

With this thermostat, you’ll never have to confuse yourself with weird supplier pricing ever again, because it adjusts your energy usage based on said pricing, with the added benefit of smart home features and customization.

Pros
  • Can adjust energy usage based on energy pricing
  • Energy Star certified
  • Supports a wide range of smart technology
Cons
  • Doesn’t have geofencing technology

Performance

The Honeywell Home RTH9585WF1004 7-day Programmable Thermostat keeps its performance locked in the modern age, with multiple smart assistant device support for Google, Samsung SmartThings, IFTTT, Amazon Alexa, even Microsoft Cortana. By accessing its touch screen interface, you can get readings on humidity, temperature, fan settings, modes, and 7 day programming. There are thermostats that work with smart room sensors to adjust the temperature of a room. A good example is described in our Honeywell home t9 review.

And if you aren’t home (or don’t feel like moving), you can adjust the settings through the Connect Comfort app. Alternatively, the Smart Response technology can adjust for you, but it’s optional, though best for optimal savings. It does lack geofencing, however, technology the Emerson Sensi Wi-Fi Thermostat is equipped with.

Design

Before you can use this Honeywell thermostat, you hook it up via C Wire. The Honeywell Smart Home Thermostat uses a full color display. It’s a small detail, but the color touchscreen can be altered to fit the aesthetic of your home. This isn’t your grandma’s old thermostat; it’s a smart thermostat, a WiFi thermostat, one that takes advantage of voice controls and smart home assistants like Google Home and Amazon Alexa. But if you prefer your grandma’s thermostat, the Honeywell WiFi Thermostat will look familiar. A good smart thermostat provides flexible programming options. Value

There is a lot of value you can squeeze out of the Honeywell RTH9585WF1004. Its initial $150 may seem high, at least at first, but when you realize all the energy savings you’ll collect—it’s but a drop in the bucket. This is through its ability to adjust energy usage based on your supplier’s prices, while also being Energy Star certified itself. That killer combination means you’ll get the most out of your heating cooling HVAC system without spending more than you need to. Also, you don’t need to purchase additional sensors like the Ecobee4 Smart Thermostat.

Honeywell Home RTH9585WF1004 Review Wrap Up

Our thermostat review revealed that Honeywell continues to show it knows what it’s doing with today’s technology, integrating invaluable features through smart home devices, and ultimate savings. Geofencing isn’t part of the package, but we’d argue its ability to adjust energy usage based on pricing, its Energy Star certification, and customizable screen more than make up for it.
