Performance
The GOgroove FlexSMART X2 works great, plugging into your car’s cigarette lighter for power (that’s what it was originally designed for, but nowadays known as an automotive power socket), pairs to a Bluetooth device (or 2 devices), streaming audio output via its FM transmitter to your car stereo on any unused FM frequency (vacant FM frequencies vary by geography). Being able to pair to multiple devices simultaneously is an interesting feature so you can take calls or stream music from either device. For example you and your carpool passengers can trade off DJing tunes during your commute. Controls are housed in a small unit on the end of a flexible gooseneck (allowing for different positioning). There’s not much of a display in the FlexSMART X2 (just the FM frequency to which it’s tuned), unlike the Nulaxy Wireless Bluetooth Transmitter Smartphones, No. 1 in our FM transmitter buyer’s guide, which has much more info on its display. Sound quality of the FlexSMART X2 is excellent, but of course that really relies upon your car’s audio system.

Design
The GOgroove FlexSMART X2 design is innovative. Like certain other FM transmitters, there’s a flexible gooseneck allowing different positioning of the X2 controls. The X2 control buttons allow you to pick-up or hang-up, start/stop music playing, and select next or last songs, but the minimal display of the GOgroove does imply you’ll need to peek at your phone for caller ID, song titles, etc. A single USB charging port located on the side of the FlexSMART X2 is a bit awkward, and having a second USB port would be a welcomed improvement. There’s also a 3.5mm aux-in jack to directly connect a device instead of using BT connectivity. Some reviewers complain that the FM frequency coverage of the X2 doesn’t go below 88.1 MHz (when for them most unused FM frequencies are lower). If the location of the power port in your model car creates a challenge, then you might want to check out an FM transmitter with a different design, like the small IMDEN Bluetooth FM Transmitter.If you want a more fulsome display in a compact design then the VicTsing Bluetooth Transmitter Wireless Hand Free may be just right for you, and it features multiple USB ports.
Value
The GOgroove FlexSMART X2 comes at a higher price point than most other FM transmitters, but still a nominal investment considering the features. The dual device pairing capability and the reported better sound quality of the X2 microphone and stereo music may tip the scales in favor of GOgroove. If your budget is tight then perhaps you will prefer the LIHAN Hands Free Bluetooth Transmitter.

The GOgroove FlexSMART X2 works great and is a good way to add modern wireless calling and Bluetooth audio features to your favorite ride.. even vintage vehicles. It’s portable so you can easily move it to the different vehicles in your fleet to play music, and/or keep it when you trade-in one car for another.
