Why We Like It – Epson Home Cinema 4010

The Epson Home Cinema 4010 combines a variety of features to make sure you get the ultimate home theater experience; 4K resolution, 3-chip technology, HDR processing, and more make this Epson’s best projector for sports. The 4010 also sports a wide range of connection options, powerful brightness, and plenty of adjustabilities.

Pros
  • High-quality images
  • HDR and Digital Image Processing
  • Excellent Adjustability
Cons
  • Generates a lot of heat
  • Bulky – not portable

Performance/Resolution

Unlike the Epson Home Cinema 3700, the Epson Home Cinema 4010 does not project in native 4K, but it comes close enough to all but the most particular consumer; 4K Enhancement Technology using advanced pixel-shifting can turn any full HD media into incredibly clear and detailed images, and even supports full HD 3D media such as 3D blu-ray. The projector screen displays with a high dynamic range contrast ratio of 200,000:1 in full DCI P3 color space for extreme color gamut, just like you’ll see with the Epson Home Cinema 5040UB. If almost 4K just isn’t enough, we highly recommend either the Viewsonic PX747 or the Acer H7850 for beautiful native 4K resolution. If you want a 1080p resolution, check out the Epson Home Cinema 3700 Full HD 1080p 3LCD Projector.

Brightness/Lumens

The Epson Home Cinema 4010 doesn’t just display incredible images – it displays them even in well-lit rooms. This video projector boasts high maximum color brightness and white brightness at 2,400 lumens, and its 3-chip display technology promises no rainbowing or color brightness issues, along with excellent HDR performance. Daytime viewing is no problem for this beast of a projector, and it guarantees superb performance even with plenty of ambient light. If 2,400 lumens sounds too low, the Optoma EH415ST offers an impressive 3,500 lumens of maximum brightness.

Adjustability/Viewing Angle

To make up for its bulky size, the Epson Home Cinema 4010 hosts various adjustability features for easy setup. Using a 3-axis motorized precision zoom lens, the lens can be shifted horizontally to 47% and vertically to 96%. The focus can be adjusted on the device or using the remote, and all these settings can be separately saved in up to 10 presets for easy recall of your favorite preferences. The projector has several different modes, such as bright cinema mode, digital cinema mode, color mode, and more. The product can be sold with an additional ceiling mount and mounting kit for even easier installation.

Durability

The Epson Home Cinema 4010 is designed to be a relatively permanent installation, and as such is not built for the rigors of travel – its bulky size and heaviness would make this problematic anyway. However, the design is optimized for ventilation, resulting in a large amount of heat given off by the machine, but quiet fans. The air filter can be replaced easily, as can the bulb, which has an average lifespan of around 4,000 hours, depending on the frequency and the different modes.

Value

Considering that a true 4K projector of similar capabilities would cost you upwards of $5,000, the Epson Home Cinema 4010 is an exceptional value to produce very similar picture quality at a fraction of the price of a 4K projector. The value is further increased when considering various connections, such as HDMI, USB type A, mini USB, and more. The 4010 also offers multiple adjustability features, making this home projector an incredible value.

Epson Home Cinema 4010 Wrap Up

Though the Epson Home Cinema 4010 requires a stable mount in a room with decent ventilation, these flaws only further attest that this home theater system is an absolute powerhouse that delivers extraordinary picture quality and a staggering number of features to produce the ultimate viewing experience.
