Most cheaper projectors advertise 1080p, but in reality, they have either 480p or 720p as their native resolution. The Epson Home Cinema 1060 is different. Even though it comes at a lower price point, it has Full HD (1080p) as its native resolution. Because of the native resolution upgrade, it easily becomes the best short throw projector at this price. And along with that, it also is not only the best Epson projector, but probably the best projector for artists as well at this price.

Why We Like It – Epson Home Cinema 1060

If you need a native 1080p projector for cheap to upgrade your home theater setup, the Epson Home Cinema 1060 is an excellent option to consider. Coming in at about $500, it doesn’t cost too much to break the bank. At the same time, it also offers excellent performance, Full HD entertainment, and a lot of connectivity options.

Pros
  • Native 1080p resolution
  • MHL support through one of the HDMI ports
  • Dynamic contrast ratio of 15000:1
Cons
  • Very high power consumption of 315 watts

Performance/Resolution

As we mentioned multiple times before, it’s a native 1080p projector, similar to the BenQ W1500 digital projector. Unlike the AuKing Mini Projector, the Epson Home Cinema 1060 doesn’t take advantage of supersampling or anything like that. And it has a dynamic contrast ratio of 15000:1. If you need a projector suitable for commercial, academic, or business settings, or for truly high-end home cinema installations, try out the Optoma UHZ65.

Brightness/Lumens

The color white brightness (luminous flux) comes at around 3100 lumens. This is about 100 lumens less than the Epson EX7240. Obviously, if you use the eco mode, that light output number is going to decrease by a bit. Still, it’s good enough for most rooms. The only problem is that, on higher brightness settings, the contrast ratio suffers a lot, making blacks look grey and washed out. If you want to get deep blacks at higher lumens, go for the ViewSonic 1080p Projector instead.

Adjustability/Viewing Angle

You get all the usual adjustability options such as keystone, lens shift, and other stuff that you normally see on a home theater projector at this price. Keystone adjustment does not reduce the image’s quality as much on this projector, which is excellent.

Durability

The included lamp might be pretty bright, but the lamp life isn’t that great. On eco mode, it is rated for 10000 hours. And in normal mode, it is rated for just 6000 hours. If you regularly use your projector, the lamp won’t even last a whole year, which is unfortunate. If you are worried about the lamp life, going with the cheaper BIGASUO Projector might be a better idea overall.

Value

At around $500, the Epson Home Cinema 1060 offers native 1080p resolution, along with a slew of other features. So overall, we’d definitely say that the Epson Home Cinema 1060 is worth the money. There are a few caveats, but those can be overlooked easily due to the low price tag. This says a lot, considering the Epson Home Cinema 2040 is well over $1000.

Wrap Up

The Epson Home Cinema 1060 is a great choice for AV enthusiasts that are just getting into the projectors market. It’s a great starting point for pretty much everyone.
