The Rebel T100 offers decent DSLR performance with good image quality at an affordable price. Like the Fujifilm X-T100, this is an entry-level DSLR camera that comes with features such as an optical viewfinder, a good AF system, and the 18-55mm kit lens. It is definitely one of the best point-and-shoot under 500 from a popular camera manufacturer. Visit our best digital camera list to see other popular camera choices.

Why We Like It – Canon EOS 4000D Review

The Canon EOS 4000D, also known as the Rebel T100, offers good image quality, a live view mode, and features a good autofocus system. The camera uses the EF-S lens mount that’s compatible with several lenses. It also records full HD 1080p video at 30 frames per second, and offers Wi-Fi connectivity for easy sharing. Pros
  • Good battery life
  • Easy-to-use controls
  • Full HD video recording
Cons
  • Low resolution and small display

Performance

Unlike the Canon 5Ds DSLR, the Canon EOS 4000d is an entry-level camera that features an 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, which is coupled with the Canon DIGIC 4+ image processing engine. The camera offers a native ISO range of 100 to 6400, which is expandable to a maximum of 12,800. The AF system is good enough, and has 9 detection points. It’s also not the fastest, as it only delivers 3fps continuous shooting. You would be better off with the Nikon Coolpix B700, which offers a faster focus and a longer zoom range.

Design

The EOS 4000d looks similar to the EOS 2000d, but there are some small changes that you’ll notice. It still has the textured coating on the front grip, but it no longer has the metal lens mount Canon uses on the 2000d. The EF-S mount here is made of plastic, and so is the body of the camera. The rear flush-mounted LCD display still lacks touch support, just like the Canon PowerShot D30 camera, and is now smaller at 2.7-inches. Also check out the Nikon P7700, which has a fixed lens design.

Value

For an entry-level DSLR camera, the Canon EOS 4000d is pretty well equipped. You get a good image sensor, an interchangeable lens mount system, and good battery life. The image and video quality are solid, but the camera does lack the Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology. However, the rear button setup is easy to understand and works well with the screen. Its main competitor, the Nikon D3400, is a better-equipped camera, but you may also want to try the Canon 90D for a different experience.

Canon EOS 4000D Review Wrap Up

The Canon Rebel T100 a.k.a the EOS 4000d, is a good entry-level DSLR that offers good battery life, full HD video recording at 30fps, and easy-to-use controls. It also provides solid image quality in photos as well as video. A larger display with touch support would’ve been nicer, but this is a basic DSLR, so you can’t expect a lot.
