Released in mid-2013, the Bose Companion 2 Series iii computer speaker is regarded as one of the most affordable picks from the audio electronics manufacturer since it retails at slightly less than $100. Its pocket-friendly price point might invite a lot of questions about the sound quality, but if you’ve dealt with Bose speakers before, then you know that their quality is always A1. The computer speakers maintain clear sound at any volume, and offer a wide soundstage that makes watching movies or playing video games an immersive experience. It’s because of such reasons that we think the Bose Series iii multimedia speaker system is one of the best computer speakers thus far. Go ahead with our review of it and see if you’ll agree.

Why We Like It – Bose Companion 2 Series iii Multimedia

The Bose Series iii multimedia speaker system is, in our opinion, the best option you could go for to upgrade the sound experience on your laptop or computer. You can count on them for crisp clear sound, at a cost that won’t really hurt your wallet. While these speakers are great, they’re probably not the best contender for a total high-end home stereo system.

Pros
  • Affordable
  • Doesn’t distort sound at a high volume
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Cables may be short for some

Performance

This Bose multimedia speaker system won’t really give you problems when setting it up. The right speaker is the main unit between the two, and is the one that has the power port as well as the left speaker connection port. You’ll also get two full-size stereo RCA inputs there, with one designated for your computer and the other for any external media source. Each speaker boasts of a 2.5-inch full-range driver, and thanks to TrueSpace Stereo Signal Processing Circuitry, the high-quality sound seems as though it’s emanating from a larger sound stage than provided by the two Bose speakers – a feature that we’re sure that you’ll also appreciate. If you’d rather have one centralized soundstage, take a look at the TaoTronics TT-SK018.

Design

Similar to the Bose Soundlink 3, these Bose companion 2 series iii speakers measure about 7.5 by 3.2 by 5.8 inches, and are also both lightweight with a small difference of about 0.5 pounds between them. They come in the form of an upright rectangular block, which we think a lot more people would prefer compared to the conical shape of the AmazonBasics USB-powered PC computer speakers. They’re also only available in black, and with the volume control, headphone jack, and RCA inputs located on the right speaker, you’re definitely going to be reaching for it a lot more than you will be reaching for the left one.

Value

For its size, the Bose series iii multimedia speaker produces a good amount of bass, and also doesn’t distort the sound when turned up to high volume. The high-quality sound produced is great for watching movies or gaming, and the speakers are also quite easy to install, just like the Elegiant SR300. If you still can’t wrap your mind around dishing $100 for computer speakers, then maybe the more affordable Logitech z130 might tickle your fancy.

Bose Companion 2 Series iii Multimedia Wrap Up

The Bose series iii multimedia speakers are great speakers to connect to your PC or laptop for entertainment, and they do offer the kind of quality you’d expect from a Bose product. Head over to Amazon and find out what first-time buyers had to say about it.
