The BenQ TH671ST projector is a short-throw projector aimed at gamers, boasting gaming-oriented features at an attractive price point. Its low input lag and suite of gaming-focused features make it one of the best short throw projectors out there for gamers, and it doubles as a solid home entertainment projector even for those that either don’t game or only barely game.

Why We Like It – BenQ TH671ST

The BenQ TH671ST is a solid full HD gaming projector with a high contrast ratio, low input lag, and a dedicated game mode, making it well suited for gamers without the ability to mount or store a full-sized TV still looking to play video games on a large screen.

Performance/Resolution Etc.

There’s little to complain about the BenQ TH671ST’s overall picture quality, unlike the BenQ MW535A which isn’t full HD. Input lag sits at around 16.5ms (or about 1 frame behind, assuming you’re running at 60 FPS), and picture quality is solid, making it a good pick for gaming. The Optoma GT1080HDR provides a better gaming experience overall thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate, higher brightness, and support for HDR, but the overall picture quality is worse than the BenQ’s. If you’re looking for something higher-end, the VAVA 4K Projector or the BenQ TK800 are also solid picks thanks to their 4K resolution and HDR support, but it’s significantly more expensive. The GooDee Mini Projector is extremely portable and easy to set up almost anywhere.

Brightness/Lumens

Brightness is fine even in conditions with medium ambient light, though colors will wash out in bright rooms. It’s suited best for dim rooms, though it won’t be wholly unusable in brighter rooms. That said, it’s a poor fit for extremely bright rooms, as its peak brightness is inadequate for bright areas. It’s also strictly inferior to the Optoma GT1090HDR, which gets much brighter, has a longer rated lamp life, and comes in at a higher 4K resolution, albeit for almost twice the price.

Adjustability/Viewing Angle

With vertical keystone correction and a decent throw distance range, the BenQ TH671ST provides decent adjustability. More inputs–especially DisplayPort–would have been nice, but HDMI isn’t a limiting factor in any capacity. It’s adequate as far as home theater projectors go, and it shouldn’t present any issues on that front; it has all the adjustment it really needs. Some might find its throw ratio a bit lacking, as it has to sit further back than some other projectors to display an image of the same size, but it’s not an issue in nearly all cases.

Durability

Like most midrange projectors, it’s a DLP projector rather than a laser projector, meaning it has less longevity than high-end offerings. That said, its rated lamp life is still quite high, and it’s an overall well-built projector. Its construction is sturdy and it has no obvious design flaws, meaning physical damage or wear shouldn’t be an issue unless the machine is physically tossed about.

Value

Value is the BenQ TH671ST’s strongest selling point. Though it has competitors that beat it out in one or even several ways, it’s priced lower than a lot of its better competition and it provides a solid experience for several audiences. Though it’s best suited for gamers, it’s a solid multimedia projector in general, and while it’s lacking in some features (HDR, high refresh rates, 4K), it’s priced extremely well and hits a very solid sweet spot.

BenQ TH671ST Wrap Up

It’s not the flashiest projector on the block, but the BenQ TH671ST is a very solid multimedia projector with a strong focus on gaming. More expensive competitors may boast higher resolutions, better colors, and/or higher refresh rates, but they cost up to double the price of BenQ’s offering. As far as multimedia projectors go, the BenQ TH671ST hits a very nice sweet spot of price to performance, delivering great gaming performance and good picture quality at a nice price point.
