Slap anything with a COD Black Ops insignia and you can pretty much guarantee your product garner some fanfare.  That isn’t to say it will be a hit with devoted gamers, but so far Turtle Beach’s Earforce Tango gaming headset looks to be the real deal.

Announced at this year’s Gamescon, this headset rocks full 5.1 Dobly Digital Surround Sound sans wires.  This feat is accomplished using a 2.4/5GHz Dual-Band Wi-Fi box that connects to your Xbox 360 or PS3.  It furthers its cache with a 10 hour battery life and Bluetooth support for voice chat and taking calls on your phone even in the heat of the battle.  While the feature list isn’t exactly exhaustive, Turtle Beach has added some nice touches to the Earforce Tango to make sure you remember this is a cobranded COD headset.  They’ve partnered with the game’s actors for actual voice prompts that tell you when the headset is powering on, pairing, battery is low, and more.  In addition to a variety of audio presets, they’ve packed in something called Sonic Lens, which can either widen or narrow the sound field to focus on sound cues that are difficult to hear like enemy footsteps.  And to ensure comfort during your endless frag session, Turtle Beach has used memory foam ear cushion, though they haven’t said what size drivers are on board.

The Turtle Beach Earforce Tango full surround headset should go on sale this October for about $300.
