The United Services Automobile Association, better known as the USAA, is an American Financial Services Company that’s got a wide range of services available, and insurance happens to be one of their most popular offers. The association offers motor insurance, life insurance, health insurance, electronics insurance, as well as cell phone insurance. As a third party insurance provider, most people aren’t really keen on signing up with them for their cell phone insurance needs, but if you look keenly, they do have some competitive packages in store. Do they match up to some of the best cell phone insurance packages in the industry? Sit tight and we’ll help you find out.

Why We Like It – USAA Cell Phone Insurance

The USAA Cell Phone Insurance plan stands out from other phone insurance companies in the market since instead of phone repairs, they do mobile device replacements, and they do it through a turn around time of 2 days. If you like having 24/7 support at a relatively low price, then check out Upsie Phone Insurance.

Pros
  • Phones replaced within 2 days
  • Free 50GB of cloud space included with purchase
  • Remote locking & phone tracking
Cons
  • No phone repairs

Covers & Deductibles

With the USAA cell phone insurance plan, there’s only one package on offer, where you’ll be required to pay $7.09 per month. This is far more limited than what you’ll get under the Akko phone insurance plan, but it would be very much worthwhile for anyone who is looking for a one size fits all solution, and doesn’t want too much to think about. You can also opt to sign up for a one year or a two year plan, so that you get long term coverage. The out of pocket replacement cost that you’ll get under this phone protection plan amounts to about $199, and minus the cost of 1 year worth of coverage, you’ll be able to save close to $701 when replacing a phone that costs up to $1000. For even more options at a reasonable price, you can’t beat the Verizon Phone Warranty.

Backup Services

There are a number of backup services that make the only phone protection plan from USAA very much worthwhile. Under it, you’ll have the ability to lock or locate your phone remotely in the event of loss or theft, and on top of that, you’ll get up to 50 GB of cloud space availed to you – something you definitely won’t get with the Geek Squad Phone Protection Plan.

Customer Service

As with any insurance plan, customer service is always at the core of efficient service delivery, and the team at USAA understands this all too well. In case of any issues with your subscription, you can reach out to them through a 24 hour line, and they’ll always be ready to help you out.

Security Features

The one main thing about the USAA mobile phone insurance plan that you’ll need to note is the fact that you’ll only be able to get a replacement phone through the service. This means that there’s no phone repairs that you’ll get done, so you’ll have to keep this in mind as you sign up for their plans. Also, you’ll only be able to buy a plan for a phone that was purchased in the last 12 months, so if you have an older phone, you won’t be able to sign up for this plan.

Value

Signing up for this plan is quite easy, but you’ll have to start the process online, and get things finalized over the phone. The only thing that we’re not very happy about is that to get a replacement phone under this plan, you’ll have to pay $199 upfront, which is very different from the conditions under the Squaretrade phone insurance plan.

USAA Cell Phone Insurance Wrap Up

Working with insurance companies can sometimes be a bit of a headache, especially when you’re forced to have a plan that you don’t quite well understand. Taking the time to know exactly what to expect from a plan is very important, and will save you a lot of time in figuring out whether or not it is the right plan for you.
