Survival knives need to just get the job done, which is exactly what the Schrade SCHF9 does through smart, quality design. In fact, its handle design and grip landed it on our survival blade knife review list of best survival knives.

Why We Like It – Schrade SCHF9 Extreme Survival Knife Review

The Schrade SCHF9 is a no-frills full tang, fixed blade knife that delivers a really good quality survival knife at a low price point for its class.

Pros
  • Sturdy high carbon steel blade
  • Grippy handle with well thought out design
  • Great value
Cons
  • Somewhat limited in its simplicity

Performance

The Schrade Survival Knife performs well at all the basic tasks you may need in the wilderness or during other outdoor activities. The ring design on the handle makes it easier to cut and carve, and the front quillon makes sure that your hand doesn’t slip into the blade. The knife is great for branch cutting due to the indent at the bottom of the blade. It’s a heavy duty knife for its size, which makes it good for heavy duty wood processing. It’s not as precise for fine carving work. Design

The fixed blade, full tang design is fabulous for durability and really digging into a branch when you cut it. Constructed of high carbon stainless steel, the blade is high quality and razor sharp right out of the box. The carbon steel is also anti-corrosive. Ultimately, there’s a reason they call it high carbon steel: because it’s highly reliable. Also the drop point blade construction helps with that as well to make sure that the blade steel is as strong and thick as possible up to the point of the knife. The TPE handle is applauded for its great grip design. You’ll also rest easy knowing your Schrade knife is holstered securely in a ballistic nylon sheath.

Value

If you want a high quality fixed blade knife, you usually have to fork up some dough, especially for models like the Ka-Bar Full Size US Marine Corps Fighting Knife, Gerber LMF II, and Morakniv Bushcraft. But the Schrade SCHF9 offers great quality without the high price tag. If you’re new to knives or want high quality spare, this is a great value.

Schrade SCHF9 Extreme Survival Knife Review Wrap Up

Once you get your grip on this Schrade survival knife, you’ll understand the hype behind the unique, well-designed handle and the high quality blade. You truly can’t go wrong with this one, even though it doesn’t come with the bells and whistles of other knives.
