If these white bulbs look strange to you, it’s because they’re not your ordinary white light bulbs—they’re LED smart bulbs. The Philips Hue White 4-Pack starter kit is Bluetooth-enabled, providing another opportunity to control every aspect of your smart home, right down to the light bulbs, and they’re some of the best smart light bulbs to do so.

Why We Like It – Philips Hue White 4-Pack Review

A combination of adjustable lighting, great proprietary app, and smart home features, these light bulbs are the finest example of why you should be replacing your old light bulbs for the modern age.

Pros
  • Works w/ Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa
  • 25,000 hour/22 years lifespan
  • Energy Star certified
Cons
  • Separate model for Apple HomeKit

Performance

The Philips Hue White A19 LED Smart Bulbs have a brightness of 800 lumens—200 more than the Peteme 4-Pack 60w. That’s bright enough to light your room with a single starter kit, without being obnoxious. You can always adjust them as you see fit. You’ll get an easy 25,000 hours out of them, making it the easiest choice to replace old light bulbs. Even better, they’re Energy Star certified, so you know you’ll save on your energy bill, just like you would with the TP-Link Kasa Tunable.

Design

Since the Philips Hue White 4-Pack Bulbs are Bluetooth-enabled, you can adjust the lighting though one of two avenues: the Hue Hub or the Philips Hue app. If you have the Hue Hub, great! If not, don’t sweat it—the Philips Hue app is still an option. Adjusting the lights is as easy as moving the slider through either means, including the ability to connect them with your smart home devices such as Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. Unfortunately, Apple HomeKit is not a part of the group, but equivalent dimmable A19 hue lights are available for purchase.

Value

When you do the math, spending $12.50 per light bulb seems like a steep price. You have to consider each light bulb’s lifespan. That’s 25,000 hours of light or 22 years (based on average usage). You’re saving yourself a lot of yearly trips to the store for your average, run-of-the-mill light bulbs. You can stretch their lifespan through altering their output through the app or Philips Hue Bridge, which is optional, similar to how the TP-Link Kasa function. Because of that, we are more than happy to give it a mark of great value.

Philips Hue White 4-Pack Review Wrap Up

Aside from the boneheaded decision to make a separate model for Apple HomeKit support, the Philips Hue White 4-Pack LED Smart Light Bulbs are some of the best light bulbs on our list. They integrate easily into Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, have incredibly long lifespan, and save on your energy usage with its Energy Star certification.
