If you aren’t an audiophile—someone who seeks the highest quality of sounds—and need a cheap pair of headphones that do their job, look no further than the Panasonic RP-HT161-K. This unit delivers good sound, and the price is incredibly low compared to some of the best over-ear headphones available today.

Performance

When taking in the audio, the quality was fairly neutral. Bass, mid-range, and high-frequency trebles never competed with one another. Hearing clear vocals is good, though we would’ve liked some deeper bass. With its 30mm neodymium drivers, and a frequency response of 10Hz-27kHz, it has a solid range. It isn’t anything special, but if you’re being a couch potato, and need some music, you’ll get enjoyment out of the Panasonic RP-HT161-K. But if audio quality is a big concern, then we recommend upgrading to COWIN E7 Active Noise Cancelling Headphones or COWIN E7 Pro.

Design

As for design, Panasonic went with a fairly minimalist approach. This isn’t a Bluetooth pair of Panasonic headphones, it’s corded—a 6.5-foot long cord, to be specific. That’s great, but cumbersome on the go. It’s 0.66 lbs, preventing too much pressure from being applied to the head. Its matte black finish is complemented by the comfortable earbuds that minimize ambient noise, though the Mpow 059 Bluetooth Headphones were a bit more comfortable. The build quality certainly feels cheap. We didn’t expect much, given the price. At least sacrifices were made there and not with sound. Our review on the LSTN cherry wood troubadours headphones shows it doesn’t have a cheap feel.

Value

Every aspect of the Panasonic RP HT161 K Full-Sized Over-the-ear Lightweight Long-corded Headphones was average, at best, and cheap in other areas to save cost. They’re not what you’d consider “high end.” Are they bad? Not by any measure. The value is linked to price. If you’re someone who’s on a budget or notorious for breaking headphones often, the Panasonic RP HT161 K Headphones are enticing. It doesn’t quite have the high-quality sound that audiophiles seek, but for $15, you get a decent pair of headphones.

Panasonic RP-HT161-K Review Wrap Up

For what it’s worth, the Panasonic Headphones RP HT161 K is a decent pair of headphones for deal seekers and headphone-breaking individuals. They’re comfortable on the ears for a while and minimize ambient noise, sound quality that’s clear and good enough, and priced really low. If you don’t plan on traveling, cable management isn’t an issue.
