Movado has been designing and crafting the best watches for nearly a century and a half, with its roots firmly in Switzerland. We weren’t surprised that the Movado La Nouvelle continued that legacy with its simple yet beautifully designed analog watch. Striking as it is luxurious, the La Nouvelle is ready to compliment your outfit and be a conversation starter.

Why We Like It – Movado La Nouvelle Review

The pinnacle of craftsmanship, Movado does it again with the La Nouvelle; a simple watch that captures a regal appearance in various forms of silver, steel, and gold while being incredibly accurate with its Swiss quartz movement.

Pros
  • Swiss quartz movement is very precise
  • Water resistant at 30 meters
  • Free shipping
Cons
  • Lacks hour/minute/second markings
  • Expensive

Performance

To keep the Movado La Nouvelle accurate, it makes use of Swiss quartz. While automatic movement is still very accurate, quartz is better still and more efficient. It was the same reason we liked the Fossil FS5241, with its own quartz movement. Movado also made the La Nouvelle water resistant; it can withstand depths of 30 meters. It’s good against splashes, but not for submerging. Reading time can be difficult, however. The minute and hour hand are easy to see against the black dial, but it lacks time markers except for the 12 hour mark. For clarity, pick up a Timex Men’s Easy Reader.

Design

Movado has always been conscious of craftsmanship, and the La Nouvelle reflects that. Very few watchmakers can create a simple yet incredibly beautiful bracelet watch. And don’t be fooled by the “men’s” or “women’s” tag; every version of La Nouvelle has a unisex design. Its stainless steel case is 30mm in diameter, with 13mm thickness. Depending on the model number, it can come in a color silver, or dial color black—not just material stainless steel.

Value

Movado has a long history of being one of the most successful watch companies—dating all the way back to 1881, where its roots are firmly planted in Switzerland. Given that Movado has been a part of museum collections since just shows the craftsmanship behind every watch. Given its performance and simply yet beautiful design, you’re paying for a part of that history.

The Movado La Nouvelle is about luxury. Still, it’s hard to look past the price if you aren’t a part of that lifestyle. Better for pound value would be the Fossil Men’s Grant Stainless Steel & Leather Chronograph Quartz Watch. At the very least, you get free shipping.

Movado La Nouvelle Review Wrap Up

The Movado La Nouvelle is, without a doubt, an exquisite watch; the golden casing especially. For what you’ll spend, you hope so—and Movado surely delivered, and even threw in free shipping. Its Swiss quartz movement makes it incredibly accurate and water resistance gives it some ruggedness. It’ll take some time getting used to the lack of hour, minute, and second markings.
