Not every device you own needs to be a smart device; the Fossil FS5241 proves the classic watch design is alive and well, and looks good doing it, too. Featuring a wide variety of bands, case shapes, and water resistance—it’s more concerned with telling you the time, not being another link to your smartphone. It’s one of the best watches for style-conscious men.

Why We Like It – Fossil FS5241 review

For style over function, the Fossil Men’s Grant Stainless Steel & Leather Chronograph Quartz Watch blazes a trail with its plethora of colors and high quality straps; a stainless steel case and water resistance is icing on the cake.

Pros
  • Wide variety of options
  • Classic design
  • Water resistant up to 165 feet
Cons
  • Isn’t a smartwatch

Performance

The Fossil Men’s Grant Stainless Steel & Leather Chronograph Quartz Watch uses a quartz movement with three separate hubs that keep track of the week, date, and month, aside from 24 hour tracking. The stopwatch functionality was on point and very accurate, once adjusted with the dials. Additionally, the Fossil FS5241’s water resistance rating is 5ATM, granting dips into shallow depths and can withstand 165 feet.

What it doesn’t do, however, is accept notifications or measure health like the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier Smartwatch With Bluetooth does. For some, that could be an issue. For us, it wasn’t a big deal. That isn’t what the Fossil FS5241 is for.

Design

What we loved the most, above its performance, was the variety of options available. The Fossil Men’s Grant Stainless Steel & Leather Chronograph Quartz Watch is already made of great, high quality materials and that quality expands to every facet, more so than the Timex Easy Reader. Band material, for example, comes in three forms: silicon or leather strap, and stainless steel bracelets—all of which handle wear and tear with proper care.

You can go with a traditional silver color stainless steel case, with a dial color black; there’s over a dozen case materials and case sizes to choose from such as orange and blue, not just black dials. Case sizes can be as small as 36mm or as large as 50mm. With the Citizen Chandler Watch, however, you get very few options.

Value

For what it is, the Fossil Grant Chronograph Men’s Watch does its job well. It can tell time, all the way to the month, and act as a stopwatch. No, it won’t send you notifications or measure your heart rate—but it’ll sure look good on your wrist. And really, that’s what it does best: making you look good. Take advantage of its wide variety of options to match the day’s outfit, complimenting it in ways most smartwatches fail to do. The brand Fossil does manufacture smartwatches if you like the look but want smart notifications and so on.

Fossil FS5241 review Wrap Up

If you were hoping for a smartwatch, the Fossil Men’s Grant Stainless Steel & Leather Chronograph Quartz Watch isn’t the one for you. And we don’t think that’s a huge negative. Some people just want a watch that functions, without needing a connection to their smartphones. With how customizable the Fossil FS5241 is, there’s a design for everyone and the added benefit of swapping straps at a moment’s notice.
