The Ionic, Fitbit’s first claimed smartwatch, is a great device for anyone that wants to explore options outside of the usual samsung or apple watch series. This fitness tracker includes essential functions like sleep tracking, heart rate monitor, and activity tracking. A single charge gives it approximately a 4 day battery life. This smartwatch manages training data, but outside of that it provides features that help throughout the day. This is a major upgrade compared to other devices like the Fitbit versa, but if it seems to lack there are more watches like the Lintelek Fitness Tracker with Heart Rate Monitor from our Best Running Watches.

Why We Like It – Fitbit Ionic Review

Fitbit Ionic is one of the latest devices in the FItbit series. This watch has great features during and after workouts which makes it a tempting buy for its usability. If the watch ever gets boring to glance at there are a variety of interchangeable watch bands available from fitbit and 3rd parties. This is a great watch that is comparable to the apple watch because of its unique functions in and out of fitness tracking.

Pros
  • Music Storage
  • Fitbit Pay
  • Interchangeable Bands
Cons
  • Battery Life

Performance

This fitness watch has hits and misses. In terms of battery, a four day battery is not the greatest spec to flaunt, because there are a variety of watches that can surpass a 7-day span easily. Watches that have proven to last more than the Ionic include the Garmin Forerunner 35 Running Watch, and the Timex Ironman Classic 30 Full-Size 38mm Running Watch
That being said, it makes it up by providing fitbit pay, a service similar to apple pay that is proving to be a useful feature that promotes well-being in the community. The watch can connect via android wear for android, and works with apple as well. Finally, all fitness data is transferred to the fitbit app where it can be compared.

Design

The Fitbit Ionic features a square design that looks like the apple watch with edgier sides, with interchangeable bands. The watch works through the touchscreen. The heart rate monitor is located in the back of the watch face, where it can easily detect heart rates. Inside the device’s interface, the fitness features are simplified to lead you either to music, activities, wallet, or settings. If it ever gets to the point that you think you’re tired of your watch, we suggest purchasing some new interchangeable bands before making a big purchase. Value

The Fitbit Ionic is a great choice for anyone that wants to try something different in the realm of smartwatches. Luckily with the Ionic there are plenty of features that will improve any fitness journey, while also helping with post-workout moments such as using your Fitbit Pay to make contactless purchases. Combined with the variety of looks this watch pulls off with different bands, this is a purchase that can last because of its adaptability.

Fitbit Ionic Review Wrap Up

The Fitbit Ionic is a fantastic device that truly lives up to its fitbit predecessors. This device is capable of reading the majority of heart rate data during running, swimming, and resting moments. When it comes time to look at the data, the fitbit app includes everything from the hours you slept, the steps you’ve taken, and the personal workouts available. The Ionic is one of the few that allows for less phone usage by loading up to 300 songs on its own storage. There is no reason why the fitbit series aren’t worth a try, since they have proven to be useful in and out of fitness.
