Growing a vegetable garden is a rewarding experience. Planting rows of luscious lettuce, tomatoes, and herbs pay off at harvest time, giving you fresh fruits and vegetables for your family’s dinner table. Unfortunately, gardeners will experience the threat of pests and disease to their crops, and they need a solution to manage the risk of these threats. Fortunately, you can control the types of pesticides and fungicides you use on your lawn garden with the Chapin 63985 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer we can recommend even if it didn’t make our Best Backpack Sprayer.

Why We Like It – Chapin 63985 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer

When it comes to backpack sprayers everyone likes something simple and with comfortable shoulder straps, hardworking and reliable. This is arguably all of those things. The hand pump and ease of use to perform your own pest control or watering your hard to reach plants makes Chapin 63985 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer ideal.

Pros
  • Brass wand tip
  • Multiple filters to stop impurities
  • Twist tip for different types of spray
Cons
  • Some require the hoses to be tightened

Performance

With three different settings spray stream can mist spray or come out as a solid stream, the last reaching up to 20 feet away with a horizontal spray stream and 27 vertical spray stream all thanks to the Black Decker Volt lithium ion battery powered motor. With one flaw it seems that over time the pipes running to and from the motor come loose over time requiring the fastenings to be tightened at the start of every season and before initial use for safety. Another backpack sprayer that is compatible with common weed killers, fertilizers, and pesticides is featured in our Chapin 61900 4 gallon commercial stainless review.

Design

The four gallon tank is accessible by a wide mouth with a filter to keep out any dust or dirt, the lid with it’s viton seals and six inch wide mouth also acts as a carry handle if you don’t like the padded straps. With three filters to make cleaning easy and prevent impurities from damaging the brass tip, speaking of the tip also gives three different sprays for different uses making the Chapin 63985 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer highly versatile. It has a wider mouth then the Chapin 61900 4 Gallon Commercial Stainless though more costly than the Professional 190328 Backpack Sprayer Killing or the Chapin International 61500 ProSeries Translucent.

Value

With the rechargeable volt lithium ion battery and reliable components with a little maintenance to the piping this is a safe investment for both the home gardener and someone needing to spray chemicals for pest control. Due to the many options available I would say it’s worth the 186.19 asking price.

Chapin 63985 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer Wrap Up

Once aware of the problem with the fastenings we found it a simple to use and reliable option for pest control and watering plants making both tasks easier then using a manual pump or watering can. The higher quality tip and the multiple filters make up for the little bit of work required to get started.
