Why We Like It – Chapin 61900 4 Gallon Commercial Stainless

The Chapin 61900 4 Gallon Commercial Stainless is equipped with a stainless-steel wand , has an ample 4 gallon tank capacity, includes a trifecta of nozzle selections, and has a comfy harness system, delivering on its stated purpose as a Tree and Turf Pro Backpack Sprayer.

Pros
  • Blockage preventing filtration system
  • Leak-proof 4-gallon tank
  • Comfortable long wearing harness
Cons
  • Relatively expensive
  • Hose somewhat short

Performance

Up to most any application, the Chapin 61900 manual backpack sprayer can handle whatever you got –tree turf, turf pro commercial, even firefighting. The ginormous translucent poly tank provides fluid level visuals, with a wide mouth opening for easy filling. A multi-stage debris filter reduces clogging. The 20” stainless steel extension wand at the end 48” reinforced hose provides sufficient reach. Sprayer includes 3 nozzles, and has enough PSI to spray 20+ feet in both horizontal and vertical orientations. Some experimentation is needed to find the best nozzle for the job, but unlike Goldilocks, with just three choices some people may be left longing for a fourth “just right” nozzle.

Design

Most backpack sprayers share a similar design, and the 61900 follows established form. Build quality is good and materials are solid. The cushioned grip shut-off assembly includes a pressure gauge to monitor 40-60 psi operating pressures. The pump handle also has a cushion grip and can be set for either right or left-handed operation. The 48” PVC hose length is adequate, although another 6-12” of hose would be an improvement. The stainless-steel wand holds up to bumps and bruises. The harness system includes nicely padded shoulder straps, and most importantly a larger padded hip belt than many sprayers, to comfortably take much weight off your weary shoulders (4 gallons of liquid is over 33 lbs.).

Value

If you’ve mostly used handheld sprayers, switching to a backpack sprayer is transformative especially when jobs take some time. The 61900 is a turf pro commercial backpack sprayer and is priced accordingly as one of the more expensive units available. Even if you’re not a Pebble Beach greens-keeper, if you routinely spray or tend bigger plots then the extra gallon of material and reliable performance are certainly worthy considerations in assessing value. While pumping the 61900 is relatively easy thanks to its ergonomics, it is still a manual backpack sprayer. Those wanting completely effortless spraying and who have the budget might want to consider the MY 4 SONS Battery Powered Backpack Sprayer by M4.
