Pros
  • Can lock and unlock your door anywhere
  • Supports WiFi, Bluetooth, and Z-Wave
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • A little pricey

Performance

What’s nice about the August Home Smart Lock Pro is how hands-free it is. You might have noticed it doesn’t use a smart keypad, unlike the Kwikset 909 or Yale Assure Lock SL. You have to come within WiFi or Bluetooth range and it will automatically unlock, and it’s really responsive with it, too. And with DoorSense sensors—which can be installed on the door frame—, you’ll know it’s secure when you leave for the day. It’s time you use a smart lock system that allows you to give virtual guest keys to monitor who comes and goes into your house. Read more in the August smart lock review.

Furthermore, you can set up Amazon Alexa, Apple Homekit, Apple Watch, or Google Assistant to unlock and lock the Pro August with voice commands. Alternatively, you can allow remote access to friends and family when you’re away by using the August Home app. This is similar to the Genie Smart Lock that lets you unlock your door via your phone even when you’re a million miles away on the other side of the world.

Additionally, the August app will keep tabs on visitors with smart alerts—especially unwanted visitors. It’s worth considering pairing it with the August Doorbell Cam. Want a smart lock that can help you remember where you parked your car? Click the Elgato smart key review.

Design

The August Smart Lock Pro Connect is a fairly thick device made of anodized aluminum, available in silver or grey. Its hockey puck shape can be attached to your existing lock in a matter of minutes. That means your door lock can still be unlocked via a key.

Around the August Lock are a series of LEDs. When they’re glowing green, it means the door is opened. When the LEDs turn red, it means the door is locked. It uses batteries, but when the device dies, the lock will stay locked, unlike the Ultraloq UL3 BT.

Value

Compared to other August smart locks, the Pro Plus has to be the most comprehensive. Not only does it perform well, it’s ready to connect to most smart home devices and is compatible with Z-Wave Plus. That alone is worth the price of admission. So when you consider all of that, and the August Connect bridge bundled with it, that price tag does not seem so expensive anymore. You’re getting a superb deal. And it doesn’t hinder the owner with its design.

August Smart Lock Pro Review Wrap Up

It’s so easy to install, and when it’s ready, you gain access to a laundry list of features such as support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Z-Wave. Sure, it leans towards the expensive side, but well worth the cost to lock and unlock anywhere and at any time.
