If you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ll know that the Super Star Destroyer is Darth Vader’s command ship and one of the deadliest ships in the galaxy. The LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer has amazing attention to detail and is part of the UCS collection. It made our best Star Wars gifts due to its impressive scale.

Why We Like It – LEGO Super Star Destroyer

The Star Wars Super Star Destroyer is part of the UCS (Ultimate Collector’s Series) range of Star Wars sets. This means it’s collector-grade and once it’s phased out, will probably increase in value. This Super Star Destroyer has stunning attention to detail and is massive in size. And if you’re a Star Wars fan, check out our review on how the Saberforge custom lightsabers let you wield the force your way.

Pros
  • UCS set
  • Minifigures included
  • Fantastic attention to detail
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Not for children
  • Complicated to build

Performance

The LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer has a very impressive scale measuring over 50-inches long and containing 3152 pieces. This size and the large number of pieces is a fantastic reflection of the movie version’s impressive scale and presence as the largest ship in the Empire’s fleet. Apart from the Super Star Destroyer itself, the set also includes minifigures of Darth Vader, Admiral Piett, Dengar, Bossk, and an IG-88 droid. Another great Star Wars collectible is the Luke Skywalker Force FX Lightsaber Replica.

Design

We can’t do a Super Star Destroyer review without talking about its excellent design. It’s extremely large but only weighs 8 pounds. Because there are over 3000 pieces, the set is divided into numbered bags to make assembly much easier. One of the best things about this set is that the interior has a command center for minifigures to pilot the ship. To get to it, all you have to do is remove the center section. The sheer scale and the attention to detail are incredible and worthy additions to any collection. If you prefer gaming more than LEGO, please try the Xbox 360 Star Wars Limited Edition.

Value

When considering just how large and complicated the Super Star Destroyer is, the price starts to make sense. It’s worth remembering that UCS sets represent the highest quality LEGO Star Wars sets that are made for collectors. These sets can actually increase in value after a few years, especially after they’ve been discontinued. This particular set has already been discontinued so it might be worth getting it while you can. It would be great to build it while watching the Star Wars The Complete Saga on Blu-Ray.

LEGO Super Star Destroyer Wrap Up

The LEGO Super Star Destroyer is a well-made, collector grade set that really captures the size and shape accurately. It has over 3000 pieces and comes with minifigures. It’s also a UCS so you are assured of quality. It’s quite complicated to build, but that’s the whole point of getting such a large set.
