If you’ve settled on Xbox One—congratulations! Now you just have to decide which model you want: the One S or One X? What’s the difference? The Xbox One X is the end all be all. It comes with extra power to push its library of games to UHD 4K resolution and recreate accurate coloring with HDR support, in addition to a UHD 4K Blu-ray player inside. It’s the best gaming console for those who like to game but what an emphasis on alternative entertainment.

Why We Like It – Xbox One X Review

A direct competitor to the PS4 Pro, the One X supports HDR and UHD 4K right out of the box, in addition to improved FPS and overall performance to its library of great games. When it comes to the size of the console, the Xbox One X competes with the Playstation detailed in our Sony PlayStation 4 slim review.

Pros
  • Supports High Dynamic Range (HDR)
  • Runs games in 4K Ultra HD
  • Xbox Game Pass is a great service
Cons
  • Interface can be a nightmare to navigate
  • Xbox One controller relies on AA batteries

Performance

If you thought games looked good on the original Xbox One, the Xbox One X enhanced games look better. This is because new hardware has allowed for games to output in 4K, with HDR. This combination makes Xbox One games like Gears 5 look incredible. In addition to improved color accuracy with HDR, Dolby Atmos support makes sound effects fill your chest. Of course, the most beneficial enhancement is to frame rate. Games that were once locked to 30 FPS can now run at 60 frames per second. Design

Like the PlayStation 4 Slim and PS4 Pro, the Xbox One X design doesn’t go out of its way to change compared with the Microsoft Xbox One S; in fact, it’s nearly identical. One notable design the One X Microsoft Xbox has over the Nintendo Switch Gaming Console and PlayStation 4 Pro is a UHD 4K Blu Ray player inside.

However, the Microsoft Xbox One X console made a few dumb decisions by placing more USB ports in the back rather than just the one in the front. Good luck navigating the interface, though—it can be a nightmare, a collage of squares and strange placements. To make matters worse, the controller relies on AA batteries. Why? To sell rechargeable battery kits.

Value

There’s no doubting it: the Xbox One X is a powerful console, being an adequate rival to the PS4 Pro. That’s to be expected. But what games does the Xbox One X Microsoft have to offer? Not as many exclusives as Sony, unfortunately. What the X Microsoft Xbox One does have to offer is better Xbox deals with the Xbox Game Pass. Like PlayStation Plus, it too offers free games and rewards, but is arguably better than what Sony offers. This is especially true if you have a gaming PC. Games you bought for the Xbox can be played on your PC, without purchasing a second copy.

Xbox One X Review Wrap Up

With the new Xbox, the Xbox Series X, on the horizon it’s a tough decision to make. Fortunately, it won’t mean the Xbox One X is obsolete; games will still release on both consoles for some time. After all, it supports HDR, UHD 4K, and the Xbox Game Pass is awesome. Just invest in a rechargeable battery pack and practice using the interface.
