You may be looking for the Best TV Antenna because you want more channels, or maybe because you live in a rural community and regular antennas just aren’t working out, so you decide to look at the Best Long Range TV Antenna. If this is you, then you wouldn’t be faulted for considering the Winegard HD8200U.

Why We Like It – Winegard HD8200U

Winegard HD8200U Outdoor TV Antennas are another in a successful, long line of Winegard products. It can receive both VHF and UHF signals clearly, maximizing your channel pull, and even comes with a coaxial cable for installation, something that’s becoming increasingly rare.

Performance

The Winegard Antenna HD8200U is able to receive UHF elements and, in particular, has powerful VHF performance. Being able to receive both signals is important in order to maximize channel gain. Like the rca ANT751R Compact Outdoor Yagi HDTV Antenna or the Channel Master Advantage 100, the Winegard is also 4K ready too! You can also use an amplifier like the Channel Master CM-7778HD to stabilise your image quality or make your viewing clearer.

Ease of Install

Winegard Heavy Duty Platinum HD Antennas come with a coaxial cable, just like the 1byone Indoor Amplified TV Antenna, which is becoming rarer nowadays. If there’s anything pain associated with the installation of the antenna it’s that the nuts and bolts are left loose inside the box and can be easily lost. Winegard would do well to put them in a plastic bag or something.

Durability

The antenna itself weighs about 17 pounds which is the highest we’ve seen so far and might be a pain to lug up to a roof. Consider the Pingbingding HDTV Antenna for something lighter. Other than that, it’s built pretty solid. The metal feels very solid, there’s much more of it than there is plastic, and the holes all line up right for easier assembly.

Range

The Winegard HD8200U features high gain on both VHF and UHF signals as well as a 65 mile range. While 65 miles is definitely a long range, it’s just a smidge under the 70 mile range we consider the average for long range antennas. Of course, you can always purchase an amplifier, but that’s never an absolute guarantee that you’ll get more channels.

Value

Customer reviews for the Winegard HD8200U over on Amazon are pretty good, scoring a respectable 4.5/5 stars based on a plentiful 802 customer reviews. Going back to the build for a moment, the steel hardware is also zinc-plated which makes it corrosion-resistant. An important feature and one you’ll want to have for an antenna you have to install outside.

Winegard HD8200U Wrap Up

The Winegard HD8200U is just ever so slightly missing the mark with its 65 mile range. Just 5 miles short of the average 70. But it’s still a fantastic antenna. Although it’s heavy, it’s built well and can withstand anything thrown at it. Perfect for those of you who live in the snowy climates.
