For those looking for the best smartphone to accompany their life of danger, the best rugged smartphone goes without saying. You’d miss out on something great if you ignored the Ulefone Armor 7. Its ability to withstand submersion and attacks from every angle is only matched by its equally superb battery life.

Why We Like It – Ulefone Armor 7

For rugged individuals performing rugged tasks, the Ulefone Armor 7 will be your best friend. It’s armored to the teeth, taking punishment left and right, yet still functions with a good chipset and an amazing battery to boot.

Pros
  • Can withstand a beating
  • Superb battery life
  • Runs on a Helio P90 chipset
Cons
  • Average camera quality

Overall Performance

Starting with the Ulefone Armor 7’s triple camera system, its front camera is a solid 16-megapixels, while the rear camera is a whopping 48-megapixels (plus a 2MP sub-camera). As far as quality is concerned, it won’t thrill you. Colors are a bit muted, saturation is fine, though contrast is superb, but otherwise high-quality; it’s 48-megapixels, after all. Its beating heart, however, is a good piece of hardware: the Mediatek Helio P90 octa core chipset, with 8GB of RAM for backup, helping it directly compete with the DOOGEE S95 Pro.

Battery Life

Better than its chipset is its 5500mAh battery, accompanied by fast charge and wireless charging. Compared to the DOOGEE S90, the Armor 7 is almost 500mAh stronger. It also charges via Type C, which puts it right in line with modern hardware. As for length, it’s impressive battery can last up to 550 hours on standby mode. No, that wasn’t a typo: over 500 hours, when on standby mode.

Display

The Ulefone Armor 7 doesn’t do much to impress on presentation. It displays in 1080 FHD, which isn’t anything fancy but still passable by today’s standards. Its brightness is average, barely climbing above 400. Its contrast ratio, however, is a nice 1455:1, so it does well displaying media content.

Durability

The Unihertz Atom doesn’t hold a candle to the Ulefone Armor 7 in terms of toughness. Sure, its IP68 ingress rating comes close, but the Armor 7 is IP68/IP69K compliant and has been MIL-STD-810G certified. In fact, you don’t even have to bother with a phone case. A quick review of rugged phones reveals only the Doogee S95 Pro has an equal if not better ingress rating.

Value

Who is this for, exactly? It largely depends on your lifestyle. Are you a construction worker? Are you prone to accidents, like dropping your phone? Or maybe you just want a smartphone that can handle everything and the kitchen sink. In that case, it’s for you.

Ulefone Armor 7 Wrap Up

You aren’t getting the fastest chipset, but the Ulefone Armor 7 went a few steps above average with the P90, and a fantastic battery to follow. Sadly, its camera hangs out in the mid-range too much. The real magic is how tough the smartphone is, capable of withstanding water and incredible weight.
