Bench vises are either useless or useful project to project, based on the size of the materials you’re working with. If the jaw size is too small for your work, it’s of no use to you. At the same time, the anvil needs to have adequate space as well. For the best bench vise for large projects, the TEKTON 4 Inch Swivel Bench 54004 is one tempting offer. Why We Like It – TEKTON 4 Inch Swivel Bench 54004

When you’re itching to get large projects finished, you need a large jaw size and plenty of anvil space to work with—and this anvil has those in spades.

Pros
  • Large 8-inch jaw size
  • Anvil has large work surface
  • 30,000 PSI of tensile strength
Cons
  • Has 3 mounting holes
  • Lack of pipe grips

Performance

If you’re working with large objects, having high tensile strength is of absolute importance. Packed with a 30,000 PSI cast iron construction of tensile strength, and a dual lock system, means light to medium duty projects you slide in between the 8-inch serrated steel jaws will stay there as you work with its strong, sure grip. That’s some serious power in and of itself, but the Yost Vises 445 Utility Combination pushes it further with its 3,150 pounds of force. What it can’t handle are pipes; it doesn’t have the teeth for it.

Design

The TEKTON 4 inch Swivel Bench Vise is meant to last you for plenty of years. Made of cast iron and steel, take care of this bench vise and it will serve you well. Along the top is a steel anvil, which features a larger work space. It helps tremendously whether you’re tinkering with car parts, metal, and so on. At the same time, the base itself is a 120-degree swivel base, the same as the Wilton 11104 Bench 4 Inch Opening Vise. Another unfortunate downside is the bench vise only has 3 mountain holes rather than 4.

Value

The TEKTON 4 Inch Swivel Bench 54004 definitely deserves its spot on our list. You’re getting a really good deal for $55. This is especially true when taking into consideration the kind of force the jaws are exerting on the materials you’d have trapped between the teeth. The major downside is having to permanently install it to a bench. The Irwin Tools Clamp Vise 226303 is cheaper by nearly $22, but its performance is simply dwarfed by the TEKTON 54004 in every way.

TEKTON 4 Inch Swivel Bench 54004 Wrap Up

The TEKTON 4 Inch Swivel Bench 54004 will definitely earn its spot inside your workshop. Its large 8-inch jaw size, large anvil, and great jaw strength means a wide range of projects can be tackled. However, this comes at a cost of avoiding pipes, and possibly installing a fourth mounting hole yourself.
