Available for purchase online and in stores like Best Buy alongside all the best smartphone options, the Samsung S20 offers a big improvement from some of the best small phones like the Galaxy S10. You have many different options for the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, S20 Plus, & Samsung Galaxy 5G S20: Samsung offers them in a wide variety of colors (cosmic black, cosmic gray, cloud pink, and cloud blue).

Why We Like It – Samsung Galaxy S20

Far outperforming the measly 16.6 MP ultra wide front camera of the Google Pixel 5 is the Samsung Galaxy S20. Armed with an impressive 64 MP front camera, the S20 series simply obliterates the competition. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus adds depth-sensing to the mix, and the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra takes it even further, upping the camera to a whopping 108 megapixels!

Overall Performance

To start off this Galaxy S20 5/Galaxy S20 Ultra/Galaxy S20 Plus review, we’ll clarify that this phone is truly optimized for photography. Depending on which model you get, your phone will have a camera between 64 to 108 MP, and offer either 128 or 512 GB of internal storage. If that’s not enough space, the phones support microSD cards up to 1 TB. You’ll get a minimum of 12 GB of RAM, a 4000 or 5000 mAh battery, and either 30x or 100x Space Zoom.

Battery Life

Each model has a different battery capacity. The S20 has a 4000 mAh battery, the S20+ has a 4500 mAh battery, and the S20 Ultra has a 5000 mAh battery. The 4000 mAh battery of the standard S20 offers up to 28 hours of talk time, but with normal use, you should only expect the battery to last around 9.5 hours if you’re running it at 60 Hz. If you raise the refresh rate up to 120 Hz, the battery life drops a lot, giving you only 8 hours of use before you’ll need to recharge.

Display

All of the different models use the same Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X
Infinity-O display, and share the same resolution of 3200 x 1440p. They all support refresh rates up to 120 Hz and are HDR10+ certified. The only thing that changes is the screen size, which consequently affects the pixels per inch. The standard S20 has a 6.2” display with 563 PPI. The Plus version has a 6.7” display with 525 PPI, and the Ultra version has the largest screen of all at 6.9” with 511 PPI.

Durability

While the casing of this phone is sleek and stylish, it’s unfortunately also extremely slippery. This means you’ll want to invest in a case right away to avoid dropping your new phone. These phones are all IP68 rated, meaning they’re relatively safe from dust and water (you can submerge the phone in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes without damaging it), but sadly they’re not impact-resistant. If you drop this phone, expect the screen to crack or shatter upon impact. you can check out the Nokia 5.1 Plus if you are looking for a phone that is almost as stylish.

Value

Unlike the Apple iPhone 12 Mini, the Galaxy S20 is compatible with a wide variety of third-party accessories like headphones, chargers, and more. This adds to its overall value, which is good because this phone will set you back over $600. On the plus side, you won’t have to pay for shipping. We weren’t able to find any warranty information, but hopefully, you won’t need it. This phone did well in the ratings, scoring 4.6 out of 5 stars (based on 1,665 reviews).

Samsung Galaxy S20 Wrap Up

If you love taking videos and photos, then the Samsung Galaxy S20 is the phone for you. Limited only by your budget, you can take quality pictures of up to 108 MP! While this phone isn’t the cheapest, it’s definitely a great buy who wants a phone and a camera in one.
