Dishing The Dirt On The Dirt Rocket

Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross Bike Review

This motocross bike looks awesome and has performance to match.

Your kids can have their very own heavy duty motocross bike. The MX500 packs in a 500W electric motor that reaches speeds up to 15 miles per hour, pneumatic knobby tires, suspension and riser handlebars, plus it has a weight limit of up to 175 pounds and handles all kinds of terrain. Your dirt rocket supercross dreams are about to come true.

Pros:

  • Durable steel build
  • 15 miles per hour top speed
  • 175-pound weight capacity

Cons:

  • Not large enough for kids over 14 years old

Durability And Design

Imagine if they created a scaled down version of an actual motocross bike. One that looks entirely authentic and can even do stunts just like the real deal. This is the Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket in a nutshell. The design is dead on and has instant appeal.

Kids are instantly drawn to this bike because they love cool things that look fast and fun. When you see this bike, you want to get on and get it dirty right away. Adults can ride the Razor mx500 kids bike, as long as they are under the max weight. If you’re looking for a 4-wheeler, read our Razor Dune Buggy review.

A durable steel frame with authentic dirt bike frame geometry means that this 15 mph electric bike motorcycle can handle all of the stunts and terrain and always live to ride another day. Adjustable handlebars and comfortable handlebar grips are a big bonus so that different sized kids can ride and feel comfortable.

The retractable kickstand will let them park this scaled down dirt bike anywhere and keep it upright.

Power

The Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket packs plenty of power with its 500-watt electric motor, tearing up the dirt pretty good. This thing not only looks like a motocross bike, it feels like one too. I tested it in the mud, wet grass, gravel, plain old asphalt and hard-packed dirt roads and it powered through everything like a champ. Battery/Charging Time

This Razor dirt bike charges in about 12 hours. Yes, that is a long time for battery charging, but we are talking about a powerful dirt bike here with a 500W electric motor, and a 36V rechargeable battery. This is a big boy toy. If you want the power, you have to pay with the charge. Make sure not to overcharge it so that you prolong the battery life.

Performance

As I said, this Dirt Rocket electric bike is a powerhouse. It just plain feels powerful and it handled well on all terrains. The large 16 inch front wheel and the 14 inch wheel in the back just grip any terrain and get you through with ease. These pneumatic wheels also make the ride smooth, with some help from the dual suspension and riser handlebars. The pneumatic knobby tires are designed for maximum power transfer.

Not only smooth but a comfortable ride as well. The hand operated rear disc brakes felt very responsive and are easy to use as is the twist grip throttle control. It’s a joy to ride and geared for dirt in every way. As an adult riding this bike, I got about 30-40 minutes of run time per single charge, so your child will likely have longer play time. This dirt bike design carries riders up to 175 pounds at a nice top speed.

Bottom Line

Straight to the point. The Dirt Rocket MX500 is pretty awesome. Those robust wheels, the dual suspension, powerful high torque motor with variable speed chain drive, the authentic Motocross look, all make this electric bike a winner. Any kid who is into electric dirt bikes is going to fall in love with it. I can’t wait to get it dirty again. This 15 mph electric bike motorcycle toy leaves other bikes in its dust.

Razor excels at these dirt bikes. The Razor mx500, mx650 are both amazing bikes. As is the Mcgrath Dirt Rocket electric motocross bike. Especially the sx500 Mcgrath dirt rocket electric model. All offer a smooth and comfortable ride and plenty of power. They are all an authentic dirt bike ride.
