Looking for the best selfie camera phone on a budget? The Huawei Honor 8X isn’t packing the latest and greatest, but offers plenty of performance for a bizarrely low price. And yet, its CPU is more than meets the eye. If you travel often, you’ll get a kick out of its dual-SIM design.

Why We Like It – Huawei Honor 8X

The Huawei Honor 8X offers one of the quickest ways to equip your pocket with a fast-acting smartphone, thanks to a good 8-core CPU and oh-so-tantalizing price per performance.

Pros
  • Great performance for price
  • Fast responding fingerprint sensor
  • Has a SIM dual design
Cons
  • Micro USB charging

Overall Performance

Running everything is an octa core Kirin 710 CPUt, which is about mid-range. It’s a good choice, offering plenty of speed and snappy responses without costing a fortune. Its graphics lend to some light gaming, though choices are limited. Picture quality is definitely better through the rear camera than the front camera. The 20-megapixel sensor captures a fair level of colors, dynamic range, sautartion, and sharpness, though sometimes the AI mode can get in the way, but otherwise helps by adjusting settings on the fly. It’s in low-light settings that it tends to suffer unless you rely on its own night mode.

Battery Life

The Huawei Honor 8X operates from a 3750mAh LiPo battery. Compared to the LG V60, its battery life is abysmal, clocking in at just 4.5 hours. To make matters worse, it uses a microUSB for charging.

Display

The display is colorful and densely packed with pixels, using a vivid mode to sharpen and saturate media. It has a nice full HD resolution, expertly packed into a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, over a 6.5-inch screen. There’s definitely plenty of screen for entertainment

Durability

The Huawei Honor 8X looks top-shelf; however, it’s anything but. It makes due by combining aluminum and plastic, covered over by a rather slick looking matte finish to prevent fingerprints. Unlike the Apple iPhone 11 Pro, it lacks any official water resistance. You’ll want a phone cover!

Value

For the money you’d be throwing down for the Huawei Honor 8X, you’re getting an excellent deal. And yes, this is despite its flaws. Over time you’ll get used to its somewhat cheap feel. After all, underneath is a fair collection of hardware. Also, it comes with a dual SIM design and fast responding fingerprint sensor, and 64GB of storage. If you’re still not convinced, bump up to the Samsung Galaxy A70.

Huawei Honor 8X Wrap Up

The Huawei Honor 8X will definitely disappoint smartphone aficionados, but could be perfect in the hands of someone who desperately needs a good smartphone for a low price. There’s enough to make it far superior to the bottom of the barrel. thanks to a good CPU, dual-SIM design, and fast responding fingerprint sensor.
