Your idea of the best smartphone is one that handles water and picture quality. The Google Pixel 4 Xl has an ingress rating of IP68 and Night Sight is great for nighttime vlogging, along with great picture quality, helping it to intersect the best waterproof phone and the best phone for vlogging.

Why We Like It – Google Pixel 4 XL

The Google Pixel 4 XL beefs up its overall size, but overhauls a few features, like a fast refresh rate, IP68 water and dust resistance. And it takes fantastic pictures, even in low light settings.

Overall Performance

The rear camera is the MVP here on the Google Pixel 4 XL. Its low-light performance is superb, taking clear, high quality images with a great level of contrast without losing detail. And Night Sight gives you the opportunity for nighttime shots. Colors aren’t artificially bright, but lean towards realism, whereas the Apple iPhone 11 is slightly brighter. On a side note, the facial recognition is on point, unlocking quickly and accurately. Apps especially benefit from the fast reacting Snapdragon 855 chipset.

Battery Life

It isn’t just a good battery life you get with this Google phone—which is up to 10 hours—you also get the entire works. Fast charging? Nearly 50% after 30 minutes of charging. Wireless charging without a USB Type C cable? That too, and without a Pixel Stand. The iPhone 11 Pro Max, however, can go for up to 34 hours.

Display

While a bit dim, the 6.3-inch 3040×1440 AMOLED display leaves very little to desire, other than a faster refresh rate. Surprise, surprise! The Google Pixel 4 XL even offers that with a 90Hz refresh rate. And don’t worry about overburdening your battery, because it actually reduces refresh rate when not in use for better battery consumption.

Durability

But it isn’t the toughest phone. It’s likely that your Google Pixel 4 XL will collect a few scratches just chilling out in your pocket. It does, however, have IP68 water and dust resistance, which is a decent tradeoff. If you want a lighter phone that offers a decent performance then you can check out the Samsung Galaxy A10, which is quite affordable.

Value

If you wanted a phone that’s got a high IP rating and perfect for vlogging, then the Google Pixel 4 XL is definitely for you. Not what you’re after? Then this Google phone still provides heaps of value as an alternative to, say, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, due to its great overall performance. Not to mention access to a new Google Assistant version that’s more intelligent than before.

Google Pixel 4 XL Wrap Up

Even without the excellent camera, the Google Pixel 4 XL is still a powerhouse. Its Snapdragon chipset really takes charge when launching and shutting down apps. Motion Sense is, however, gimmicky and not for everyone. But its IP68 rating is beneficial. Most importantly, its camera has the quality and features to back up a vlogging niche.
