Back in my younger days, when I had a disposable income, I used to buy all the latest and greatest things, including specialty razors. But just like the discounted razors I tried before, I’d end up with cuts and nicks all over my legs (I still have many of my razor battle scars today). Maybe it’s because I was always in a hurry when shaving or maybe it was because I really didn’t know how to properly shave my legs?

Whatever it was, I decided to give up paying for $10-plus razors and instead settled for cheaper ones. I figured if I was going to get cut, I might as well do so while saving money.

Then when I got married, and it only made sense to use the same razor as my husband. I never really thought about trying out any of the latest shaving tech for women.

That is until I received the Gillette Venus Swirl with FlexiBall technology in the mail.

I thought for sure it was going to be like every other razor I’ve tried, so I wasn’t expecting much. And to see if it really worked, I made sure it had been a few days since my last shave. Okay maybe more than a few days; more like a week (hey it’s winter and just like any other woman, I live in yoga pants and leggings). This also would also help me tell if the Venus Swirl would indeed provide me with smoother results since I’ve always had to re-do my legs at least twice using cheaper razors.

And then I tried it…

Wow, is all I have to say! Unlike other cheap plastic razors, this one was soft to the touch and had a very comfortable grip. It felt as if it was made especially for my hand because I was able to control it with ease. And apparently that was Gillette’s plan, with its eye-catching violet handle that was made for optimal maneuverability over tricky spots like knees and ankles. So to call it a “smarter razor”, well, that might be an understatement.

But what really impressed me was that for the first time, in a really long time, I didn’t get out of the shower with any cuts. And I was able to shave all the hair with just one swipe!

So why no cuts? The Venus Swirl features FlexiBall technology and adjusting Contour blades, so it moves over those rough spots with ease.

And in case you didn’t know, Gillette has been using its FlexiBall technology in many of its men’s products. And thank goodness that they’ve finally brought the tech to women, because my legs weren’t looking too nice after years of shaving scars piling up.
Besides its FlexiBall technology, another highlight of the new Venus Swirl is its five Contour blades that truly cut off all of your leg hair in one swipe. You see, these special blades have a thinner, finer edge, which in turn means that it more easily adjusts to all the curves and contours of a woman’s legs. Then there is the Microfine Comb. It also helps guide even the most stubborn hairs to the blades, negating the need to go over the same spots multiple times. All this, plus a water-activated MoistureGlide Serum surround the blades and provide a smooth glide over the hairiest of spots.

By contrast, I normally use regular soap when shaving my legs. Not any more. I was also sent Gillette’s Venus with a touch of Olay Violet Swirl shave gel. The result? Moisturized legs that are left feeling super soft upon exit of the shower.

So going forward, I’m solely going to be using the Venus Swirl for all my shaving needs. And its $12.59 suggested price isn’t that bad, considering you get 1 razor (handle) and two blade refills, with a four-pack of refills about $20. After using the Gillette Venus Swirl for a few days, I can really tell the difference in my legs since they’re now smoother and cut-free!
