Why We Like It – Doogee S90

Designed with a modular case, the Doogee S90 Pro not only has a high ingress rating, but can also expand its versatility by sticking attachments to the back of the phone. Maybe you want a bigger battery? You can do that!

Pros
  • IP68/IP69 ingress rating
  • Has a modular design
  • Incredible battery life
Cons
  • Average performance
  • Accessories sold separately

Overall Performance

Compared to the Doogee S95 Pro, the Doogee S90 Pro is a huge step down in terms of overall performance. Its camera, which was pretty good despite focusing on ruggedness, has taken a huge hit, reducing its three rear cameras to only two. The main camera has been dropped to just 16-megapixels. Its front camera has also been cut from 16-megapixels, to a measly eight. Lastly, its chipset, which was a good Helio P90, has been dropped to a Helio P70, though it’s marginally better than the Helio P60. Even its graphics have been reduced to the Mali G72 MP3.

Battery Life

Doogee handsets were already rocking great batteries, even before the S95 Pro. While the Pro S90 Doogee has slightly weaker mAh, its battery life is still phenomenal. You could get all-day battery life, but frequent use can drop it down around 7 hours. What’s neat is the ability to attach a power module to the back for extra battery life. If you want to get another rugged phone you can try the BLU JOY Cell Phone, which can last 2 to 3 days on a full charge.

Display

While Android 8.1 is getting a bit old, it still looks nice on a FHD+ 6.18-inch screen. With a 1080×2245 resolution, pixel density is on point and colors look good. It’s just unfortunate the display is average overall.

Durability

Another facet Doogees have excelled at: durability. It has one of the highest ingress ratings in a phone, specifically IP68/IP69K. It has also been covered with Corning Gorilla Glass V4, which is still good these days. The Ulefone Armor 7, however, has a MIL-STD-810G certification.

Value

Despite its average performance, the Doogee S90 Pro still has a place in someone’s hands. For starters, it’s more affordable than the weaker Unihertz Atom and affordable overall. Its price matches its performance. Lastly, it has a modular design, allowing you to extend its versatility. For example, you can add: a night vision camera module, walkie talkie module, and a battery module; however, it comes at a cost since they’re sold separately.

Doogee S90 Wrap Up

Sure, the Doogee S90 Pro has seen better days, but it still has a place. If you’re someone who just needs a functioning phone that can take a beating, you’ve found it. You can even lessen its weaknesses through modules, but at a cost. It has an amazing battery, high ingress rating, and great pricing. It’s a bargain hunter’s dream.
