If you’re someone who wears makeup often, you know badly your skin can dry from using alcohol wipes. And let’s not forget the oils and such that appear naturally on your skin. To purify all of that we look to the Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel. It knocks out all that, making it one of the best activated charcoal products for general skin care.

We’re sorry, this product is temporarily out of stock

Why We Like It – Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel

A straightforward activated charcoal cream that can be applied directly to your face—your face only—to effectively remove dirt, pollution and makeup.

Pros
  • Efficiently removes dirt, pollution and makeup
  • Natural charcoal helps draw out pore-deep impurities
  • Fragrance free
Cons
  • Can be harsh if used every day

Performance

When it came to tackling oily skin, the Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel was at its best. The natural charcoal inside the gel worked hard to scrub away dirt, pollution and makeup pore deep. It left the skin feeling fresh and rather cool considering that layer of dirt and grime was removed. And no smell! More importantly, it didn’t leave skin dry and can be used on any skin type. WIth that said, you wouldn’t want to use this every day—especially on sensitive skin. But this can be said about any activated charcoal skin care. It’s best used no more than three times a week.

Design

The Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel houses the gel in a rather small package 2.6 x 2 x 6 inches. It weighs 0.75 pounds and you get 5 ounces of the gel packaged inside. Given it’s small packaging and slim stature, this makes it very portable. You can toss this into a purse or backpack and have it readily available when you need it, whereas the Zen Charcoal Hardwood Activated Charcoal Powder is best left at home.

Value

To get a sense of value, it’s best to compare the Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel with Schizandu Organics Hardwood Activated Charcoal Powder. Clinique’s charcoal cleanse is a somewhat pricey $36 while Schizandu’s charcoal powder is just under $20. When in powder form, you can create your own cleansing products for your skin, hair and mouth. Sounds great, right? Yes, but such a diverse use does lessen its overall performance as it doesn’t contain all ingredients that makes the Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel work so well. For a good companion, we also suggest the NaturaLife Labs Activated Charcoal for its all-around natural ingredients.

Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel Wrap Up

The Clinique City Block Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel is a wonderful addition to anyone’s medicine cabinet and semi-weekly routine. The natural charcoal ingredient really digs deep to clean your pores of dirt, pollution and makeup so well, without leaving behind a strange smell. While daily use is possible, it’s best to use it three times a week, not everyday.
