Is the best smartphone available a bit too much? Are you looking for the best cell phone for seniors that won’t break the bank? If so, the Zoey Flex might be a great option for you! At a quick glance, this phone doesn’t look like much, and that’s an accurate assessment. It doesn’t have any advanced features (like wifi capabilities) but offers a basic, easy-to-use experience perfect for senior citizens.

Why We Like It – BLU Zoey Flex

The BLU Zoey Flex is one of the cheapest Blu products we’ve seen yet. This extremely basic phone doesn’t even have internet capabilities, but it can play MP3s, receive FM radio transmissions, supports Bluetooth headphones, and has dual SIM card support.

Overfall Performance

It’s a phone that can take pictures and play music. Beyond that, the Blue Zoey Flex doesn’t have much to offer. While it might look really poor next to a smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, this phone isn’t designed for heavy users or even casual users. It’s simply there to make calls, and that’s really it. Still, a louder speaker would have been nice, especially for the hearing impaired. On the plus side, you do get a choice of color: black or gold.

Battery Life

This phone comes with a single battery and a charger. The 600 mAh lithium-ion battery that it runs on offers a fair battery life, so you can expect to get about 8 and a half hours of talking before you need to recharge the device. If you need a longer battery life, you may want to consider the BLU JOY Cell Phone instead. Unfortunately, you will have to choose between the 3G capabilities offered on this device and the longer battery life of the BLU JOY.

Display

Slightly stuck in the past, the BLU Zoey Flex has a flip phone design (if you prefer a non-foldable model, check out the Nokia 3310 TA-1036 instead). This actually works nicely on the phone though, because in addition to the main 1.8” display you also get a
window display so you can see the display without opening the phone. It’s not an actual screen though; rather, it’s a thin clear layer of plastic that’s see-through. It’s a cool feature, but it definitely highlights the budget-friendly design of the Flex.

Durability

Unfortunately, since this phone was built with cost-cutting in mind, the overall build of the device could definitely be improved. Since the display window is just see-through plastic (rather than an actual screen), it feels fairly flimsy and is very likely to break upon impact. In fact, the entire phone is cased in cheap plastic, so this phone is liable to break if mishandled in the slightest. Fortunately, you can get protective cases for this device, but since you have to remove the phone from most cases to actually use it, the case is unlikely to help very much.

Value

The biggest competitive advantage that the BLU Zoey Flex has is its low price point. Costing only $25, you’ll be hard-pressed to find another phone this cheap. It does come with a warranty, though unfortunately, you’ll only be covered for three months. There doesn’t appear to be any protection plans available for this phone, but that’s not a problem because a protection plan wouldn’t be worth it on a device this cheap. The phone has received mixed reviews on Amazon, scoring 3.2 out of 5 (based on 173 ratings). A good smartphone alternative to this rugged phone would be Blackview BV9900, which offers everything you need in a smartphone and can handle high falls.

BLU Zoey Flex Wrap Up

The BLU Zoey Flex is the perfect device if you’re looking for a phone (and nothing more). It doesn’t have any special features available, but at least it’s less than $30. Overall, we can see it being useful for seniors who barely use their phones, but most people would be better off looking elsewhere.
