Overall Performance
Powering everything is an octa core Snapdragon 625 chipset and 3GB of RAM. In theory that’s nice, but some games hiccup and chug, though emulation will be fine. Unfortunately, Android 7.1 is just getting old and outdated. On a better note, the front and rear camera take good pictures. It’s 12-megapixels in the back; 8-megapixels in the front. There’s a fair amount of detail, clarity and color. It’ll be good enough to capture special moments.
Battery Life
More important than camera and gaming performance is the Keyone Blackberry’s battery. Thankfully, you can get all-day battery life, even with mixed usage. It also supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, reaching 50% in just 36 minutes.
Display
Having 4.5 inches of screen is going to feel cramped, even with baby hands. This is because a physical keyboard runs along the bottom. To some, it’s hit or miss (I personally like the physical feedback). Still, its 1620x1080p resolution looks good, just tiny compared to the 6.9-inch screen of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
Durability
The Blackberry Keyone is surprisingly tough, at least better than plastic. It uses an aluminum frame, paired with Gorilla Glass 4 and a textured backing. It’s very similar to the Apple iPhone 11, which also uses aluminum and tough glass. That said, if you are looking for a pretty tough smartphone then you can also check out the Caterpillar Cat S61.
Value
Over performance, the greatest value the Blackberry Keyone provides is its security features. It comes pre-installed with the DTEK app for full control of your data and privacy, and full data encryption. Having 64GB of internal storage right out the gate isn’t too bad either. Its performance and features are definitely worth the price of $285. Cheaper than the iPhone 12 Pro Max, anyways.

If the Blackberry Keyone could move away from Android 7.1, it would be a perfect unit. It’s getting old, especially with Android 12 on the horizon. But if you do pocket this smartphone, you’re getting one with an amazing battery, decent camera, and excellent security features. And it’s perfectly priced.
