The definition of “Best Smartphone” completely varies from user to user. But for those of you that are avid mobile gamers would get a lot of usability out of something like the Asus ROG Phone 3. It’s absolutely one of the best gaming phone options that you can consider right now if the price is not an issue for you.

Why We Like It – Asus ROG Phone 3

Gaming phones are usually laughed at for their poor execution of producing good looking smartphones that are at least somewhat usable outside gaming with regular day to day use. But with the Asus ROG Phone 3, Asus really took a generational leap from last year’s ROG phone 2, not only in terms of spec upgrades but also in terms of being able to use it just like a regular phone.

Overall Performance

Just like the Samsung Galaxy S20 series of smartphones, this phone also features the Snapdragon 865 SoC built on the 7 nm+ node. And the GPU (Adreno 650) is also pretty insanely powerful. Even though the chip is overclocked to the max (2.84 GHz), it won’t be able to hold a candle to Apple’s A13 Bionic chip inside the Apple iPhone 11 series of smartphones in terms of performance in benchmark scores. But still, this is pretty much the best you can get in the Android space.

Battery Life

The ROG Phone 3 comes with a humongous 6000 mAH battery packed inside. And because of the incredibly efficient chip and the 1080p display, this phone should run for well over two days on a single full charge. And X mode lets you easily customize specific system parameters so that you can get even more screen on time while gaming.

Display

Similar to the Nubia RedMagic 5G, the ROG Phone 3 also sports a 6.59 Inches AMOLED Display with a 144 Hz refresh rate. But, it’s a much more color-accurate display compared to Nubia’s offering. And the 270Hz touch sampling rate (polling rate) makes the gaming experience that much better.

Durability

Contrary to most gaming phones from last year, this one features the more conventional glass sandwich design with Gorilla Glass 6 on the front and Gorilla Glass 3 on the back. This is very similar to the more popular flagship phones (e.g., something like the iPhone 11 Pro Max). With that out of the way, it is worth noting that this phone is quite delicate and a rugged phone like the Unihertz Atom would work well if you have an active lifestyle.

Value

Even though a few convenient features like an official IP rating, wireless charging are missing from this device, with the rise in popularity of mobile gaming, the price of the ROG Phone 3 makes sense. And little things like Wi Fi 6E support, RGB lighting on the back, multiple USB C ports, low response time really add tons of value to this already excellent gaming phone.

Asus ROG Phone 3 Wrap Up

The Asus ROG Phone 3 is pretty much the definition of a perfect gaming phone that is not absurd for daily use. And its modular nature makes it compatible with a ton of fantastic accessories (e.g., TwinView Dock, ROG Clip, etc.) that’ll definitely make your experience a lot better.
