How We Decided
In order to bring you the best record players with speakers and the best turntables for a variety of budgets, we looked at sound quality, durability, feature content and compatibility.
We only included record players that could play at least 33 and 1/3 and 78 RPM records as well as having a 45 RPM adapter or being able to natively play 45s as well.
We also only included turntables with auto stop features and that included some way of connecting to external speakers. Bluetooth input was considered a bonus but not strictly necessary for the best audiophile turntables.
We prioritized sound quality, looking for signal to noise ratio, groove pressure and flawless tracking. For turntables lacking built-in speakers we looked for a preselcetable built-in pre amp so and RCA output. Vinyl to MP3 recording was considered a plus for multifunctional record players but not a deal breaker if absent.
Other popular models that didn’t make our list, but are worth taking a look at, include the Rega Planar 1, Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, the Cambridge Audio AZUR TT50 and the Sony PS-HX500. The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon is great value for money, easy to set up, and has an Ortofon 2M Red moving-magnet cartridge. The downside: the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon can be a little tedious to control and the price is slowly rising.
